AEW Collision Results:
It’s that time of the week again, and we’re kicking off AEW Collision with a message from the AEW Women’s World Champion. “Timeless” Toni Storm comes down to the ring. After doing a couple of bits, Storm gets down on her knees to pray for Athena, who she hopes will be leaving London with Storm’s ass prints on her.
Before Storm can continue, though, Athena and Billie Starkz arrive and ambush her. They beat up Storm, and Athena gets on the mic. She calls Storm a fraud, and asks why, if AEW is where the best wrestlers are, Storm is at the top. Athena said that Storm’s days as champ are numbered, then mocked her with her own spotlight.
We’re not done, though! As Athena gloats, Mina Shirakawa’s music hits. The star walks out to confront Athena just as Storm drops Starkz with a slam. Athena tries to calm things down, but runs off. Storm and Shirakawa share a kiss before celebrating.
Tag Team Action To Start The Matches
JetSpeed vs. Jon Moxley & Wheeler Yuta
- In an absolutely chaotic finish, Moxley and Yuta survive and walk out with a win. The match featured some insane spots, including Marina Shafir being sent into the stairs and Yuta accidentally knocking out Moxley with a kick. However, in the end, Moxley distracted the ref as JetSpeed pinned Yuta for the would-be win. The distraction let Moxley and Yuta get the upper hand and walk out with a win.
Winner – Jon Moxley & Wheeler Yuta
Grade: A
This was an incredible start to the matches tonight. Had the buzz of a pay-per-view match and both teams were going all out. Some incredible spots here, too, including the hurricanrana-into-powerbomb near fall early on.
Ace Austin Makes His AEW Debut
- After being called out by Ricochet, Austin is here to make his debut. Unfortunately, it didn’t go well for Austin. He lost the match after the Gates of Agony got involved, and then Ricochet and the GOA dropped Austin with a trio move.
Winner – Ricochet
Grade: B+
This was a fun debut for Austin. He showed off a lot, just wish he didn’t have to essentially compete in a 3-vs-1 for his very first match, but it does give a fun star to feud against as he continues his AEW career.
Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong Struggle in Win
Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong vs. Blake Christian and Lee Johnson
- O’Reilly and Strong win here, but it wasn’t easy. There were some chemistry issues between the two long-time friends, and O’Reilly didn’t stick around to celebrate The Conglomeration.
Winner – Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong
Grade: C+
It’ll be interesting to see the O’Reilly and Strong stuff continue, but this match was mostly a lot of nothing.
Backstage, Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler attacked Bandido and stole his mask. Brody King came in for help, and battled FTR out and into the ring. King looked like he was getting the momentum when Stokely Hathaway used some powder to distract King, and FTR hit the Shatter Machine on him. FTR and Stoke then bragged some more with Bandido’s mask.
$100,000 4-Way Action
$100,000 4-Way Collision (Winner gets $100,000): Julia Hart vs. Kris Statlander vs. Penelope Ford vs. Anna Jay
- This is an all out battle between all four competitors, but in the end it was all Kris Statlander. She came out on top by locking Julia Hart in a head scissors submission. Ford and Jay were out of the ring so they couldn’t do anything, and Hart was forced to tap.
Winner – Kris Statlander
After the match, chaos erupted. Statlander was ambushed by Thekla and Skye Blue,, who were joined by Hart in attacking Statlander. Then, out came Queen Aminata, who came in to help Statlander. Tay Melo and Megan Bayne also came running in to join the fray, but then Harley Cameron’s music hit, and she came out and forced the heels to run off.
Grade: B-
More entertaining for its post-match shenanigans, but this was a fun time. Will be interesting to see how things go moving forward with Cameron back in the mix.
Backstage, Kyle Fletcher talked about Konosuke Takeshita and his performance in the G1 Climax Tournament in Japan. He also said that Sky Flight should keep The Callis Family’s name out of his mouth, and then wished Takeshita luck in the finals.
Also backstage, Kris Statlander is being interviewed by Renee Paquette when she’s interrupted by Harley Cameron. Cameron tried to pick up Statlander but couldn’t, then leaps into Statlander’s arms and said she knows how Statlander can spend some of her winnings. Just then, Jon Moxley and Wheeler Yuta show up, surprising the two women. Moxley simply uttered a “damn right” at Statlander before walking off, and Yuta congratulated her on the performance and win.
More Singles Action
Juice Robinson vs. Bryan Keith
- Robinson comes out on top after chaos breaks out at ringside. Big Bill came down to cause chaos, but was met by Austin Gunn, who got into it with him. The pair brawled outside while Robinson beat Keith with the Left Hand of God and Pulp Friction. After the match, Robinson and Gunn left while Bill stared them down.
Winner – Juice Robinson
Grade: C+
The Big Bill/Robinson feud is turning into a fun one. Would like to see more than just run-ins with them, though, but feels like we’ll get there.
Backstage, Anthony Bowens is being interviewed. Bowens said he was supposed to be a star when The Acclaimed broke up. He brags about the many events he’s been to and opportunities he’s been to, and doesn’t understand why Max Caster is getting a chance in Scotland before getting angry about his crowd chant.
It’s Time for The Technical Spectacle
Technical Spectacle (Winner Gets Title Shot vs. Zack Sabre Jr. at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door: London): Hechicero vs. Lee Moriarty vs. Nigel McGuinness vs. Daniel Garcia
- Nigel McGuinness is the one who walks out on top here. The finish saw dueling submissions taking place, with McGuinnes holding Moriarty in a vicious hold while Daniel Garcia had Hechicero in a Sharp Shooter. In the end, McGuinnes wrenched Moriarty back and Moriarty tapped out, and McGuinness had guaranteed himself a match at Forbidden Door.
Winner – Nigel McGuinness
After the match, Renee Paquette interviewed McGuinnes in the ring. Nigel said he was ready for his match against Zach Sabre Jr., and that it would be a dream match for him. McGuinness said he plans on making that dream match a reality, and then turned his attention to Daniel Garcia.
He knelt down by Garcia and said he was close, and just “a second away” from winning. McGuinness asked the crowd to cheer for him, and said Garcia is going a long ways in the company. He then asked if Garcia would accompany him to London to stand in his corner against Sabre. Garcia seemed to agree, shaking McGuinness’s hand then lifting his arm up.
Grade: B+
This was really a technical spectacle! Tons of awesome moves here, and McGuinness winning is a fun result. The home crowd is going to be really happy to see McGuinnes, his reception will be awesome, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see some shenanigans happen with Garcia there, too.
AEW Collision Review:
Another solid show, all things considered. We got some great development for future feuds, some incredible matches, and some build-up ahead of the upcoming Forbidden Door.
