Swerve Strickland Says It’s Time To Start Gatekeeping Wrestling Again

Swerve Strickland doesn’t think pro wrestling is for everyone anymore.

Strickland challenged Kazuchika Okada for the AEW Unified Championship at Forbidden Door on Sunday night. Swerve ultimately lost the bout, but Okada also targeted Swerve’s injured knee after the match. Okada smashed a chair into Swerve’s knee, which was trapped in the ring steps at ringside. Prince Nana ultimately made the save, as he rushed to the ring with a steel pipe.

The action wasn’t over just yet, as Wardlow made his return during the segment. Wardlow snuck in the ring and attacked Nana before revealing that he was the newest member of the Don Callis Family stable. Wardlow has been absent from AEW TV for several months, in part due to his role filming the American Gladiators revival.

Swerve broke his silence on social media on Monday, writing the following statement on Twitter/X.

Who is Swerve Strickland talking about?

Swerve didn’t add any additional context, but said it might be time to start gatekeeping wrestling again. Some fans speculated that Swerve was talking about what happened at Forbidden Door, with many others noting that he was likely referencing the now-infamous Raja Jackson incident at a KnokX Pro event over the weekend.

Jackson, the son of UFC legend Quintin “Rampage” Jackson, ‘shoot’ attacked one of the wrestlers, Syko Stu. Jackson’s appearance was reportedly lined up to start a feud against Stu, but Jackson went off-script and injured Stu, who was already knocked out.

TMZ says the Los Angeles Police Department was called to the event and opened a police report, and now the incident is being investigated.

“First and foremost our thoughts and prayers are with our brother Mr. Stuart Smith (Syko Stu) as he remains a priority and we are monitoring his well being,” a representative of KnokX Pro Wrestling Academy wrote in a statement. “What was supposed to be a planned and agreed upon wrestling spot turned into a selfish, irresponsible act of violence against Mr. Smith.”

Rampage Jackson issued a statement about his son’s actions after the incident took place.
