Roman Reigns Jokes About WWE Phasing Out Vince McMahon’s Banned Verbiage

Roman Reigns joked about how WWE Superstars can now use words that Vince McMahon used to ban.

Vince McMahon was known for strictly controlling what WWE talent and commentators could say. He preferred calling the company “sports entertainment” instead of “professional wrestling,” “superstar” instead of “wrestler,” “championship” instead of “belt,” and “WWE Universe” instead of “fans.”

Now that Vince McMahon is no longer in charge, these restrictions have been lifted. On Stephanie McMahon’s What’s Your Story? podcast, Reigns talked about his life before WWE, including his early football coach. Roman Reigns also noted that calling WWE a “violent” sport is a term Vince McMahon would never allow.

Roman Reigns: I mean, that was something. As a defensive lineman down in the trenches.”

Stephanie McMahon joked that the term wasn’t allowed and said, We use the word ‘aggressive.’

Roman Reigns added: No, no, no. We don’t.

Stephanie: “No, in WWE we don’t say violent.”

Reigns: “That’s old WWE. You can’t say violent. He [Vince McMahon] told me that before. Yeah, we don’t do that anymore. It’s violent as hell.”

Stephanie McMahon: “My character wasn’t kidnapped. I was abducted.”

Reigns: “I know, right?”

Stephanie McMahon: “Because there’s a big difference.”

Reigns: “At the local medical facility.”

Stephanie McMahon: “Yes, yes. Not a hospital.”
