WWE brought back its WWE Speed division recently, and did so with a neat new detail.
Speed — the fast-paced tournament that features three-minute matches — returned this week, during the latest episode of NXT. Speed’s new tournament was to name a challenge for Women’s Speed Championship Sol Ruca, and saw Candice LeRae defeat TNA star Xia Brookside.
While the match itself was fun, it also saw WWE try a new wrinkle in the Speed format. Fans were quick to notice that, during the match, the lights and graphics in the arena and ring would change in accordance with the match.
Every minute, a new dynamic color would pop up. Things started green, changed to orange, and with under a minute left, the ring and arena were tinged in red lighting. Fans online noted that it was a fun twist on the concept of the match. While it didn’t add any material changes, it did allow fans watching to understand the match more.
WWE Speed matches will continue to air on NXT episodes. Previously, matches were aired online exclusively.
