Global Wrestling Kingdom has issued a public statement on the viral Matt Riddle situation.
Former WWE superstar Matt Riddle is once again making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Cultaholic has previously reported that Riddle “no-showed and ripped off” a pro wrestling charity event last weekend. The Original Bro was reportedly scheduled for a match against Simon Miller at Al Snow’s Global Wrestling Kingdom.
The report further noted that Matt Riddle “expressed concerns about his flight, claiming it was cheap, and his unhappiness about being in a hotel room in Barnsley for two days.” PWInsider stated in a follow-up report that Riddle competed for Boca Raton Championship Wrestling on the same date, August 31, as the GWK event.
Riddle reacted to the reports in a video message, claiming that him no-showing the event was the result of a multitude of factors. He also claimed the flight he traveled on had no meals and that the event wasn’t for charity, contrary to what GWK had advertised.
GWK issues statement on Matt Riddle’s claims
In a Facebook post, GWK shared their version of the controversy, noting that Matt Riddle’s flights were approved and booked by his manager back in April. The promotion also referenced Riddle’s request to get booked for seminars, noting that a promoter in Paris had initially agreed to book Riddle before backing out.
However, GWK also said that Riddle has paid back the deposit, and promised to reimburse them for expenses as well.
“**update** Mr Riddle has now paid back his deposit and has given us his word that he will reimburse his expenses too,” the statement read. “We have not made any public statement on this unfortunate situation, but we think it’s important to set the record clear on Mr Riddle’s claims.”
