Chelsea Green reacts to what could have been.
While Charlotte Flair ultimately won the 2025 WWE Women’s Royal Rumble, other names floated around as potential winners beforehand. One of the more surprising names was then-Women’s United States Champion Chelsea Green, whom WWE Vice President of Creative Writing Jonathan Baeckstrom pitched as a winner by default.
As seen on WWE Unreal, Baeckstrom suggested the idea of the 29th entrant and an already entered competitor eliminate each other from the Royal Rumble, leaving the number 30 entrant, in this case Chelsea Green, as the automatic victor. Upon hearing of this pitch, Green was admittedly shocked.
“I was gobsmacked,” Green told USA Today Sports. “I think that could have been a hilarious moment, a moment that our audience would have never forgotten, a moment that would have gone down in history.”
“That’s the beauty of wrestling,” she continued. “Is that anything can happen, and by the time we hit 2026, we might have 10 more incredible ideas or ways for me to win a Royal Rumble, or for a newcomer, for someone in NXT to come up and surprise the fans.”
In WWE’s finalized plans, Green joined the Royal Rumble from the number five spotted and survived more than 26 minutes. During that time, she eliminated B-Fab and Lash Legend before accidentally being removed from the competition at the hands of Piper Niven, her ally.
