Eddie Kingston reveals who covered his knee surgery.
The Mad King has been sidelined with a knee injury suffered during a match against Gabe Kidd at NJPW STRONG Resurgence in May 2024. Kingston is now eyeing a return to AEW television after accepting Big Bill’s challenge for a match.
Speaking on Cezar Bononi’s YouTube channel, Eddie Kingston revealed that his insurance refused to cover his knee surgery, prompting Tony Khan to step in and pay his medical bills.
“When I had hernia surgery three years ago, my insurance at the time said they would cover it,” Kingston explained. “The day of the surgery, they said they couldn’t cover it. Thank God other people took care of that one.
“It happened again, same insurance, with the knee surgery. The day of the knee surgery, they said, ‘No, we’re not covering it.’ The surgeon knew, because he’d seen this before with this insurance, so he was like, ‘Let me make a couple of calls.’ Tony took care of it. Thank God. That was it.”
Eddie Kingston recalls conversation with Tony Khan about AEW return
Kingston also expressed frustration with his extended absence from AEW television, stressing that the decision is not in his hands. He shared that he has spoken with Tony Khan about his return.
“I know people are asking, ‘When? When? When?’ It’s not up to me,” Kingston said. “There is a lot of business and backstage stuff that I don’t like to talk about because that’s not my job. My job, right now, is to be ready for when it’s time. You never know when that call is.
“I talked to my boss [Tony Khan]. Everything is good. He has to book a fight. Some people don’t want to fight me. I don’t know who, but when they happen and they don’t want to fight me, Tony is like, ‘Okay. I can’t force nobody to do it.’”
