Matt Riddle Drops MLW Championship After Recent Controversy

Matt Riddle is no longer the MLW Champion, as the star recently lost his title amidst recent controversy.

During the main event of MLW Fightland, which took place over the weekend, Riddle was set to defend his title against Donovan Dijak. However, Mads Krule Krügger interrupted things and cashed in his title shot. The match, now a Triple Threat, ended in Krügger coming out on top in stellar fashion.

The match ended with Riddle hitting a Brostone piledriver on Dijak, then going for a pin. Before that could happen, though, Krügger grabbed Riddle, and hit a big full nelson slam on him right on top of Dijak, winning the match.

The loss for Riddle comes following recent controversy the star found himself in, that also cost him some bookings. Earlier this month, Matt Riddle made headlines after he was accused of no-showing and ripping off a charity wrestling event. Riddle defended himself and claimed he was innocent of any wrongdoing. This was despite the promotion’s claims that Riddle knew the details of their agreement months in advance.

One of Riddle’s responses came in the form of a post on Twitter/X. There, he called people who believed the allegations against him “dumb f*cking cunts.” Riddle continued, saying it was just like when people believed “that ‘me too’ bullsh*t and all the other f*cking garbage.” Riddle was referring to Candy Cartwright’s (Samantha Tavel) 2020 accusations that he sexually assaulted her. The former WWE star claimed they were in a consensual relationship (and claimed his ex-wife knew about it). Tavel brought a lawsuit against Riddle, but it was ultimately dropped.
