MLW is bringing back the Chamber of Horrors Match at its Slaughterhouse next month.
New MLW World Champion Mads Krule Krugger will defend his title against five opponents at Slaughterhouse. Krugger shockingly defeated Matt Riddle for the title at MLW Fightland. Now, he will face off against Matthew Justice, Mr. Thomas, CW Anderson and two other unannounced opponents.
“Barbed wire. Steel. Weapons hanging like ornaments of destruction. Once you enter… there’s no way out,” Major League Wrestling wrote. “The Chamber of Horrors has haunted generations of fighters, leaving behind only screams and scars for those foolish enough to step inside. Now the echoes of the past will return — louder, darker, and deadlier than ever before.
“Krugger’s reign of chaos faces its most nightmarish test yet. The chaos engine Matthew Justice, the master of the spinebuster CW Anderson, and the pure, unrelenting force known as Mr. Thomas have already been confirmed.”
MLW teased that more opponents will be revealed soon, with “each one hungry to carve their name in blood and steel.”
What is the Chamber of Horrors match?
The Chamber of Horrors match also took place in WCW at the company’s 1991 Halloween Havoc event. That match was the main event of the night. It saw the team of El Gigante, Sting, and The Steiners versus Abdullah the Butcher, The Diamond Studd, Cactus Jack, and Big Van Vader.
The original (and only) Chamber of Horrors match was a tornado tag team style match inside a steel cage. Another smaller cage was in the middle of the ring, which contained an electric chair. The goal of the match was for a competitor to put an opposing wrestler in the electric chair and electrocute him.
As if that wasn’t outlandish enough, the cage also contained handcuffs to stop the opposition while someone else was placed in the chair. Modern-day fans may best remember the match for the memorable clip of Abdullah the Butcher getting “electrocuted” in the chair.
It is unclear if MLW will make any rule changes to the original format. MLW Slaughterhouse takes place on Saturday, October 4 at Thunder Studios Arena in Long Beach, California. The event will air live on YouTube and on cable on beIN SPORTS.
