Cody Rhodes says the actual champ is here.
John Cena won the WWE Championship from Rhodes earlier this year and said he would be the last real champion. This declaration was made during Cena’s heel turn phase that took place earlier this year. However, Cena reverted to being a babyface after dropping the title back to Rhodes, but still made the claim in recent promos.
Rhodes was recently asked if he believes Cena still claiming he’s the last real champion undermines his current WWE title reign. He told TMZ that he isn’t bothered by it, and he’s honored to be part of Cena’s retirement run. Cody said Cena can still make that claim… as long as he’s still the one holding the real gold.
“Oh no! No. John, I’m so excited to be part of John’s final run,” Cody Rhodes said. “My gosh, the end is so special to see, and for a guy who has polarized for so long in his career, it’s all love. I think Indianapolis will be louder than France was in terms of the energy for John Cena.
“He can call himself the Last Real Champ as long as I’m the actual champ,” Rhodes added.
Cody Rhodes will defend the WWE Championship at Wrestlepalooza against Drew McIntyre. Cena will also be in action at the event, opening the show against Brock Lesnar.
