WWE kicked off its ESPN era with Brock Lesnar squashing John Cena in the opening contest of Wrestlepalooza last weekend.
A previous report from BodySlam+ emerged following Wrestlepalooza that, as of the morning of the show, Cena was scheduled to go over Lesnar. However, this report is now being disputed.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Cena defeating Lesnar was never the planned finish for their match at Wrestlepalooza.
Meltzer goes on to state that WWE didn’t bring Lesnar back to lose his first match, and it was designed to make The Beast Incarnate look as strong as possible. The idea is to build Lesnar up as an unbeatable monster once again, so someone can eventually defeat him.
Recent reports suggest that Bron Breakker has been discussed as a potential opponent for Lesnar at WrestleMania 42.
Stay tuned to WrestleZone for more information as it becomes available.
