WWE NXT Results:
Highlights from No Mercy are shown, as well as clips from TNA’s Invasion last week.
The NEW Champ is Absolute!
NXT Champion Ricky Saints stands in the ring and is showered with “you deserve it” chants. Saints notes that he said all giants need to rest, and he did that when he put Oba Femi down. Saints congratulates himself for making what he called reality, actual reality; Saints is the NXT Champion. If there is one thing about Saints, it’s that he’s going to stand on business. He bet on himself, and he walked out as the new NXT Champion. NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne interrupts. Jayne congratulates Saints, but says they have bigger things to worry about. Jayne tries to talk about the TNA invasion, but NXT GM Ava interrupts. Ava lets them know that they are the captains of Team NXT. They both have to pick who will be on their team.
Ava tells them both to put their egos aside and choose the best team. TNA Director of Authority Santino Marella is out next. Marella says he’s going to let his captains pick their teams as well. Marella doesn’t trust Tricky Williams, so the captain of Team TNA is Mike Santana. Santana joins Marella on the ramp. The crowd goes wild for Santana. Maralla perplexingly picks NXT Superstar and TNA Knockouts Champion Kelani Jordan. All parties are in the ring. Ava says the teams need to be selected by the end of the night. Marella says this isn’t an invasion, it’s a showdown (he said the thing!). Jayne calls BS on Marella picking Jordan. Saints says they don’t need to be concerned with them at all. They just need to focus on putting their teams together.
Grade: B
Wow. Marella picking Jordan as a team captain for TNA is a bold and confusing choice. Why would she care about protecting TNA’s honor? Jayne is 100% right. Jordan should turn heel (or show that she has common sense) and turn on Team TNA at Showdown. On the other hand, not picking Trick Williams is 100% the right call. The minute things get hairy, we all know Williams will be out. Considering how things have gone for TNA over the last few months, they almost have to win both of these matches. Splitting wouldn’t mean anything at this point, and since WWE is seemingly unwilling to have a TNA wrestler win NXT gold, this is the very least they can do to level the playing field.
Lash Legend vs. Jaida Parker
Legend tackles Parker as soon as the bell rings. After a bit of back and forth, Legend sends Parker flying with a suplex. The fight spills out of the ring. Parker flattens Legend with a Samoan drop. After the break, Parker blasts Legend with a running blockbuster.
Parker fires up and lands a flurry. Legend cuts Parker off before she can land Hypnotic. Parker flattens Legend with the teardrop hip attack. Legend explodes out of the corner and runs over Parker. Legend sends Parker into the ring steps. Parker reverses Legend’s finish into Hypnotic for the win.
Winner- Jaida Parker
Grade: C+
Solid TV match. Hopefully, this will lead to Parker getting heated up for a run.
He’s All Ego
The North American Champion Ethan Page gloats over retaining his championship at No Mercy. Page bamones the fact that Dr. Wagner Jr. is coming after his championship. During Page’s rant, a car pulls up backstage. Someone gets out and makes their way into the arena. Page thinks it’s Wagner Jr. It’s not. It’s Mustafa Ali! Ali says he doesn’t have an issue with Page, but he has an issue with the championship Page is holding. Page says he doesn’t owe Ali anything. Ali reminds us all that on two occasions, he earned North American Championship matches, and twice they were taken out from under him.
The last time, instead of his title shot, he got a phone call saying his services were no longer needed. Page asks Ali if he’s going to cry and beg for a shot. Ali says he’s not going to cry, he’s going to politic. And that’s exactly what he did. Ali spoke to Ava, and Page will defend the championship against Ali. Page says after he beats Ali at Showdown, he’s not going to fire Ali; he’s going to wish him the best in his future endeavors. Ali decks Page. Page runs away.
Grade: B
This was good. Almost everything Page touches turns to gold. Ali matching up against Page is interesting to say the least. Ali has been on fire since joining TNA, with his mic work being even better than his in-ring stuff. This match presents an excellent opportunity for TNA actually to win some NXT gold.
Myles Borne vs. Josh Briggs (Winner gets a Spot on Team NXT)
Borne is in control early. Brone lands crossbody off the top. Briggs takes control and works over Borne. After the break, Briggs tries to use a chain as a weapon, but Matt Cardona appears on the apron. In the confusion, Borne dropkicks Briggs and hits the Zig Zag for the win.
Winner- Myles Borne
Grade: C+
Standard NXT TV match. Perfectly fine.
Fallon Henley w/Jacy Jane vs. Lola Vice (Winner gets the final spot on Team NXT)
Vice goes for a series of quick pins, none of which keep Henley down. After a takedown, Henley boots Vice in the face for a near fall. Slding German suplex by Henley. Henley works over Vice. Vice fires up and drops Henley with a spinning backfist for the win.
Winner- Lola Vice
Jayne is visibly annoyed outside the ring.
Grade: C+
This one could have gone a bit longer. Just as these two started cooking, it was over. Vice’s spinning backfist is legit.
TNA X-Divison Champion Leon Slater and Je’Von Evans vs. The Culling
Slater floors Spears with a Harlem side kick. Vance tags in and eats a bouncy rana from Evans. Dropkick by Evans. Outside the ring, Dame yells at Paxley for not paying attention and being too focused on the doll Lyra Valkyria gave her. Evans and Slater land stereo dives. After the beak, Evans clears the ring. Slater dives over the ring post and lands on Vance and Spears. Blue thunder bomb by Slater. Vance breaks up the pin. Slater and Evans both land handspring cutters. Slater gets the pin after a swanton 450.
Winners- Je’Von Evans and Leon Slater
As Evans and Slater celebrate, the entire TNA roster pulls up in the parking lot. The NXT locker room meets them, and a screaming match breaks out.
Grade: B
Match of the night right here. This writer hasn’t seen a ton of Slater, but he seems to be TNA’s Evans, which isn’t a bad thing. Their match at Bound for Glory may be enough to get this writer off his butt and to the arena in Lowell, MA to watch the show.
The NXT vs. TNA Summit
The ring is surrounded by NXT and TNA wrestlers. In the ring, Ava, Marella, and the captains are in the ring. Williams cuts off Ava, but Saints cuts him off and announces his team. NXT’s men’s Team is Saints, Trick Williams, Myles Borne, and Je’von Evans. Mike Santana picks Frankie Kazarian, Moose, and Leon Slater.

Jayne tells Jordan that she is nothing more than a two-timing traitor. Jayne announces her team will consist of Sol Ruca, Jaida Parker, and Lola Vice. Kelani Jordan’s TNA team will be The TNA Knockouts’ Tag Team Champions, The Inspiration, and Mara Sadè. Santana says TNA is winning at Showdown and taking the TNA Championship from Williams at Bound for Glory. Santana punches Williams, starting another massive brawl between the two brands. Shawn Michaels walks down the ramp and watches the carnage, which goes on for ever.
Grade: B
Still not sure why Kelani Jordan is so eager to beat NXT, but here we are. Weird teams aside, this was a good segment, and the inclusion of Sadè and the artist formerly known as the IIconics is interesting and fun. Makes sense for those three to want to stick it to NXT. There is no way this doesn’t end with Williams costing team NXT the match, but predictably aside, it will be a fun watch for sure.
WWE NXT Review:
Tonight’s show was busy to say the least. Solid matches overall, and a good amount of time and effort was poured into building to the TNA/NXT brawl to close the show. The TNA women’s team is a perplexing yet solid group. TNA hasn’t gotten much over on NXT to this point. They need to achieve almost a clean sweep next week to balance out everything that has happened over the past few months. The match of the night was the main event tag match featuring a showcase for Evans and Slater against the Culling. How would you book NXT Showdown? Let us know in the comments!
