The Rock Reacts To The Smashing Machine’s Underwhelming Box Office Opening

The Rock has shared his thoughts on The Smashing Machine’s subpar box office debut.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s latest Hollywood venture, The Smashing Machine, is underperforming at the box office. The movie opened domestically with $6 million against a $50 million budget, making it one of Johnson’s lowest box office openings.

Despite the film’s modest performance, The Rock seems content with what he delivered. Taking to Instagram, Johnson thanked viewers who watched The Smashing Machine, noting that even a man of his stature “can’t control” box office results.

“From deep in my grateful bones, thank you to everyone who has watched ‘The Smashing Machine,'” he wrote. “In our storytelling world, you can’t control box office results — but what I realized you can control is your performance, and your commitment to completely disappear and go elsewhere. And I will always run to that opportunity.”

The Rock says The Smashing Machine changed his life

“It was my honor to transform in this role for my director Benny Safdie @bowedtie. Thank you brother for believing in me. Truth is this film has changed my life. With deep gratitude, respect and radical empathy.”

The Smashing Machine is currently playing in theaters. It stars Dwayne Johnson as former MMA star Mark Kerr, Emily Blunt as Kerr’s ex-wife, Dawn Staples, Ryan Bader as Mark Coleman, and Bas Rutten as himself. Fans can check out WrestleZone’s exclusive interview with Rutten here.
