Tony Khan has provided a positive update on Swerve Strickland’s potential AEW return.
The former AEW World Champion has been out of action due to an injury. He last competed at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, where he lost to Kazuchika Okada in singles action. Strickland underwent successful knee surgery and has been rehabbing ever since.
During the AEW WrestleDream media call, Tony Khan was asked about a potential return timeframe for Swerve Strickland. Khan said he hopes to see Swerve back on television sooner rather than later.
“I definitely think Swerve will be back long before Kota Ibushi,” he noted. “Swerve was dealing with a serious injury, but not a long-term outlook. Swerve will hopefully come back relatively soon. It’s not the kind of situation where you expect him to be out for a year or more. With Swerve, it’s a shorter timetable. I can’t say exactly when because I’m not a doctor and I don’t want to put words in his mouth, but based on the conversations I’ve had, even today, I think he’s on a good pace and Swerve (will be back) sooner rather than later.” [H/T Fightful]
Bryan Danielson fondly remembers his match against Swerve Strickland
Bryan Danielson challenged Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Championship in the main event of All In 2024. The American Dragon defeated Strickland following Hangman Page’s distraction to capture his first and only world title in All Elite Wrestling.
During an an appearance on The Nash & Josh podcast in September, Danielson reminisced about his contest with Strickland in front of a capacity crowd at the Wembley Stadium, calling it the favorite match of his career.
“So, if you were to ask me, my favorite wrestling match that I ever partook in, was against Swerve Strickland at All In last year in Wembley Stadium it was everything,” Danielson said. “My family was there in the crowd. It was the crowd’s reaction. It was the size of the crowd. It was the it was the emotion within the crowd. It was it was the feeling I got inside. It was watching Swerve Strickland be just like this badass boss.”
