WWE Legend Believes Infamous WCW Match Could’ve Worked With Anybody

A WWE legend has recalled an infamous match that got him fired from WCW back in 1995.

Barry Darsow, who’s best known for his time in WWE/WWF as Demolition Smash and the Repo Man between 1987 and 1993, opened up about his time in WCW as The Blacktop Bully during an interview with Wrestling Epicenter.

He recalled his infamous King of the Road match against Dustin Rhodes at WCW Uncensored 1995. Darsow and Rhodes were fired after the event for violating WCW’s no-blood policy by blading during the contest. When asked if he was still upset about the way he was let go by WCW, Darsow claimed the firing was unnecessary and that both he and Dustin Rhodes worked really hard that night and didn’t deserve such treatment.

“It does. Because, it was not necessary. I was always the kind of guy that wanted to work hard, make money, and have a good time. That is what Dustin Rhodes and I were doing that night. We had a blast doing that match. Mike Graham came up with the idea for the match. He got fired that night also. We never thought we were going to get fired for working our asses off.”

The WWE legend then claimed that the match would’ve worked even if he had competed against any other wrestler, and that getting fired took away his opportunity to work with some top stars.

“I thought that match was going to work with anybody that was in it. I could have worked that with Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, or really anybody. That is what upset me the most. Getting fired really cut me off from getting the opportunity to do that with some of those guys.”

Despite the rocky exit, Barry Darsow did return to WCW for one final run from 1997 to 1999. He also returned to WWE under the Repo Man character on two occasions at WrestleMania 17 in 2001 and the 15th Anniversary special episode of Raw in 2007.
