Across the nation, several states held elections to determine their governors and mayors, with the Democratic party winning key ones. In California, the majority of residents also voted to redraw its electoral districts after US President Donald Trump sought to gerrymander in largely Republican states. California Governor Gavin Newsom has since celebrated the vote as well as the other elections that favored the Democrats.
In a meme video posted to Twitter/X, Newsom referenced a memorable WWE moment that saw Shawn Michaels and Triple H lay out former WWE CEO Vince McMahon with Sweet Chin Music and a Pedigree. Placed over Michaels was the face of former USA President Barack Obama, whereas the face of Donald Trump appeared over McMahon.
“Now that’s what we call a takedown,” Newsom wrote.
Faces of various politicians, including House of Representatives member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, appeared in other video clips, one of which originally saw former WWE Champion Randy Orton sending Wade Barrett through a table with an RKO. AOC’s face replaces that of Rhea Ripley in the viral moment of “The Eradicator” slamming Luke Gallows to the floor on WWE Raw.
In New York City, Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani defeated former governor Andrew Cuomo in the race for NYC mayor. In the state of Virginia, voters elected Democrat Abigail Spanberger as governor. New Jersey saw a similar result as Democratic nominee Mikie Sherrill bested Jack Ciattarelli, a former state representative and Republican, in the race for NJ governor.
