AEW Dynamite Results:

This week’s episode of Dynamite kicks off with Tony Schiavone in the ring announcing that AEW will introduce a National Championship in a Casino Gauntlet Match later this month at Full Gear. This brings out The Opps, who are less than pleased about what went down last week.

Samoa Joe says he knows Tony Schiavone is going to claim he had nothing to do with what happened last week, but he finds that very hard to believe. Schiavone says he has respect for Joe and The Opps. Joe tells Schiavone to shut up and says there are consequences for the actions we choose to engage in.

Joe says consequences have come for Tony. The Opps surround the ring, but security enters the ring to try and protect him. Joe says this is cute, but it’s just going to get more people hurt. This brings out AEW World Champion Hangman Page. Joe says this couldn’t have worked out better because now they can take care of two problems at once.

Before The Opps can do anything, Eddie Kingston and HOOK hit the ring, and this sends Samoa Joe and company running. Hangman says he is Joe’s problem, so if he wants to try to handle his problem, he will beat his ass in his Wranglers. HOOK gets on the microphone and dares The Opps to put the Trios Titles on the line tonight against them. Joe snaps and says HOOK is never allowed to speak to him like that and agrees to put the Trios Titles on the line later tonight.

Orange Cassidy vs. Claudio Castagnoli

  • The finish of the match saw Claudio Castagnoli hit Orange Cassidy with a launching uppercut to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Claudio Castagnoli

Grade: A-

Tremendous matchup to kick off Dynamite tonight. These two men rarely miss, and when they work together, they create magic inside the squared circle. Tonight was no different. Really great stuff! This pretty much confirms that Darby Allin will defeat Daniel Garcia later tonight.

Mark Briscoe wants another shot at the TNT Championship…but at what cost?

Renee Paquette is backstage with Mark Briscoe, Kyle Fletcher, and Don Callis. Mark Briscoe wants a rematch for the TNT Championship at AEW Full Gear. Briscoe says after losing to a low blow at WrestleDream, he wants to make it a no-disqualification match.

Kyle Fletcher is intrigued by this proposal and agrees. Don Callis says they can do the match if Briscoe agrees to join the Don Callis Family if he loses. Briscoe says it’s only making a deal with the devil if he loses, and he’s not going to lose. Briscoe agrees to the Don’s stipulation. The match is official.

Don Callis really wants the Young Bucks in his family

The Young Bucks are backstage with Renee Paquette and Don Callis. Renee asks if Matt and Nick are officially part of the Don Callis Family. Neither really wants to answer until Callis changes the subject and tries to butter them up, and brings in the entire family as well as Kazuchika Okada.

Matt says they haven’t decided about joining yet, and they just need a bit more time. Callis says that’s fine and asked everyone to give them space. Everyone leaves except Okada, who tells them not to take too long to decide before also leaving.

AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship Tournament Quarterfinal: Mercedes Moné and Athena vs. Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron

  • The finish of the match saw Billie Starkz try to get involved, but was stopped by Kris Statlander. Harley Cameron hits Athena with her finishing move to score the pinfall victory for her team.

Winners: Harley Cameron and Willow Nightingale

Grade: B+

Really fun match. I said last week that I was pretty certain Nightingale and Cameron were winning this, and I was proven correct. I’m also not surprised that Athena ate the fall. I think it would have been more impactful had it been Mercedes, but what can you do?

More details regarding the AEW National Championship

Tony Schiavone is back in the ring to give more information about the AEW National Championship. The title will be decided in a Casino Gauntlet match at Full Gear. Schiavone brings out two names who will compete in the matchup, Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin.

The Hurt Syndicate makes their way to the ring. MVP puts over the history of the National Championship on TBS. MVP says if the Hurt Syndicate has to face each other in the Gauntlet for the title, they win and the fans win.

The Demand comes out on the stage and interrupts. Ricochet says he’s out here to give The Hurt Syndicate credit because no matter how old they are, they keep hobbling out here talking about championship gold. Ricochet promised he’s going to do everything in his power to make sure The Hurt Syndicate never wins gold again. The crowd tells Ricochet to shut the f*ck up. Ricochet says they are just making it worse.

MVP says no one cares what Ricochet has to say, and the only thing he’s ever done well is get his ass beat by The Hurt Syndicate. Ricochet says the only thing MVP needs to know is that The Demand will be met and Ricochet will be leaving Full Gear as the first AEW National Champion.

The power of friendship

Jurassic Express are backstage talking about the million-dollar match at Full Gear. Jack Perry says he understands that money isn’t everything, but he also knows the Young Bucks are going through it right now. Perry suggests this should help, and puts a $100 bill on a table beside the Don Callis Family locker room and sticks it with a blade.

Darby Allin vs. Daniel Garcia

  • The finish of the match saw Darby Allin lock Daniel Garcia in the Scorpion Death Lock to win the match via submission.

Winner: Darby Allin

After the match, the Death Riders hit the ring to attack Allin. This brought out the Conglomeration and Roderick Strong, with both sides battling it out.

Grade: B+

Damn good match between Allin and Garcia. I foresee these two men being some of the top names for this company for years to come. The result of this match was never in doubt, as they weren’t going to advertise a Jon Moxley match on Collision to just not do it.

FTR are on a quest for gold once again

FTR makes their way to the ring to speak to the audience. Cash Wheeler is upset that they didn’t win the titles at Forbidden Door months ago and calls out Brodido to speak to them face-to-face. Brodido’s music plays, but they don’t come out. We go backstage and see Big Stoke in front of their locker room to reveal that Bandido and Brody King are locked in their locker room.

Dax Harwood says it’s a shame they can’t come out here and decide to target Bandido’s grandmother at ringside. Harwood makes fun of her age and keeps asking her questions, but doesn’t let her actually speak. Gravity tries to defend her, but FTR attacks them.

Backstage, Brody King puts his fist through the door to get out of the locker room and hit the ring before FTR could hit Gravity with a spike piledriver.

We get a video package hyping Blood and Guts next week.

Timeless Toni Storm joins the commentary team for the next match.

Mina Shirakawa vs. Megan Bayne (w/ Penelope Ford)

  • The finish of the match saw Marina Shafir jump Toni Storm on commentary. This led to Mina Shirakawa being distracted, allowing Megan Bayne to hit her with a running Liger Bomb to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Megan Bayne

After the match, both Blood and Guts teams brawl in the ring, with the babyfaces clearing the ring.

Grade: B+

I enjoyed this match, but I wish the aftermath wasn’t almost identical to what we saw from the men earlier. Bryan Danielson even brought it up on commentary. I know it’s hard to think of something different when both matches are essentially the same, but I would have appreciated coming at this from another angle.

AEW World Trios Championship: The Opps (c) vs. Hangman Page, Eddie Kingston, and HOOK

  • The finish of the match saw Powerhouse Hobbs lock HOOK in the Torture Rack to win the match via submission for his team.

Winners: And still AEW World Trios Champions, The Opps

Grade: A-

The Opps celebrate their victory on the stage as AEW Dynamite goes off the air.

AEW Dynamite Review:

To say tonight’s show was newsworthy would be an understatement. I certainly didn’t expect AEW to announce another men’s championship tonight. To be perfectly honest, I don’t think they need it. But what do I know? I’m sure the Casino Gauntlet match will be entertaining, as they usually are.

I felt this evening’s show had a beautiful balance of not only hyping up next week’s Blood and Guts special and Full Gear. That’s typically something AEW struggles to do when they need to promote two shows at once, but I feel like they pulled it off tonight rather well.

Next week’s Blood and Guts special should be a pretty crazy show, and I’m not sure how much build for Full Gear we’ll get next week, but I’d love to see them have a great special event while also making sure the pay-per-view gets properly hyped. We’ll see how that goes.

I think there’s something to HOOK tapping out quickly to The Opps two weeks in a row. It’s starting to make me question if he’s a double agent for the faction. I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough.
