John Cena Sr. cannot praise his son and AJ Styles enough for their contributions to the business.
Cena is set to retire at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13. His final opponent will be determined through the Last Time Is Now Tournament, which kicks off on RAW next week in Boston with two opening-round matches.
As for AJ Styles, The Phenomenal One plans to retire in 2026. Styles explained his decision during the Crown Jewel: Perth kickoff show. He and Cena went on to deliver a classic that ended with the Cena picking up the win.
During a recent appearance on Sportskeeda WrestleBinge, John Cena Sr. commented on his son and AJ Styles’ upcoming retirements. Cena Sr. stated that his son has always been honest with the fans about his retirement plans.
“John was always up front with the fans,” he said. “The one thing I would always hear him say, he’s said it to me, he’s said it to the fans a thousand times, ‘When I can’t go the way I used to and give you what I used to, then it’s time for me to think about retiring.’
“AJ Styles made it very clear when he said, ‘I’m retiring because I wanna be able to walk away from this business.'”
John Cena Sr. says his son and AJ Styles want other people to take the spotlight
“John, Styles, and the rest of those people in this business, I can’t praise them enough, they always gave 250%. It’s a point now where they can’t go 250. Might go 175.
“And I think that both of them realize that it’s time now, and he would say this, ‘Dad, it’s time for other people to take the spotlight.’ And I think it’s a good move on both people’s parts.” [H/T: WrestleTalk]
