Eddie Kingston recently opened up about his strong friendship with former AEW World Champion Jon Moxley and how much it means to him.
Kingston returned at AEW All Out after being out of action since May 2024. He had suffered a fractured tibia, torn ACL and torn meniscus in a match against Gabe Kidd. While recovering, Kingston said AEW star Jon Moxley was one of the few people who visited him, bringing along his wife, Renee Paquette, and their daughter.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Kingston said his bond with Moxley began years ago on the independent scene. “Me and Moxley starved together out on the independents. We would see each other at shows and just hang out with each other… There’s a lot of fake people in wrestling and it’s pretty easy to spot them, if you know what you’re looking for. And Jon’s not fake.”
“Jon knows I’m not fake. So we just gravitated towards each other and just hung out, had our own inside jokes, all that stuff. When you starve with somebody, you really get to know them, Me and Jon became friends to the point where when I was out injured, not a lot of people came to see me. Jon did.”
He shared that when he was injured, Moxley didn’t visit to talk about business they simply talked about life. “Jon brought his wife, his kid. He didn’t have to. It was like eight o’clock at night. I was like, ‘What are you doing? The baby got to eat. Let the baby eat, go to sleep.’ He’s like, ‘No, no, no. They wanted to see you.’ And we didn’t talk business. We didn’t talk wrestling. We just talked life. So that’s my friendship with Moxley.” [H/T: WrestlePurists]
The two have also faced each other several times in AEW. Their most recent match took place at AEW: Worlds End 2023, where Kingston defeated Moxley to win the inaugural Continental Classic and become a Triple Crown Champion.
