The AEW Women’s division really shined in tonight’s Blood and Guts match. Kicking off a show like this is never easy, and I feel like all 12 women passed with flying colors. This match was a spectacle worthy of Blood and Guts. If you didn’t see this match and you’re a fan of this match type and women’s wrestling in general, go out of your way to check this out. This match was truly special in my opinion. I truly hope there are no serious injuries coming out of this match.
Jurassic Express is under attack
Outside of the arena, the Don Callis Family attacks Jurassic Express. The Young Bucks and Kazuchika Okada come out of his bus looking conflicted. Don Callis says Kenny Omega will be there next week, and that will be the perfect time for Matt and Nick to announce that they are joining the Don Callis Family. Okada points at his watch and tells the Bucks that it’s decision time, leaving them alone to ponder next week.
Falls Count Anywhere: AEW World Champion Hangman Page vs. Powerhouse Hobbs
- The finish of the match saw Hangman Page hit Powerhouse Hobbs with a cowboy boot to knock him off a section of the arena and through an electrical table box to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Hangman Page
After the match, Katsuyori Shibata and Samoa Joe attack Hangman Page at ringside and drag him back into the ring. Joe asks for the cage to be lowered, and someone backstage does it. Eddie Kingston and HOOK hit the ring right before the cage fully lowers, and Joe and Shibata run away. Page says if Joe wanted him in a steel cage, all he needed to do was ask. Hangman says their match at Full Gear will be a steel cage match.

Good grief! I was expecting this match to be good, but it exceeded my expectations. The crowd, who I thought might be tired after the Women’s Bood and Guts match, were fully invested in this one, and the brawling the crowd probably helped with that a lot. The finish of the match was crazy, and the added stipulation for Page’s rematch with Joe at Full Gear makes a lot of sense. I really enjoyed this.
Ricky Steamboat is in the house… and so is FTR
Tony Schiavone is in the ring and brings out Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, who puts over TBS for still having wrestling on the air. Steamboat begins to tell a story about his history with Ric Flair, but is interrupted by FTR and Big Stoke. Steamboat seemingly puts Stokely over. Stokely says he can’t believe he’s standing in the ring with a legend and says Steamboat is synonymous with wrestling history in this building.
Big Stoke says next weekend, FTR will make history when they become 3-time AEW World Tag Team Champions. Stokely asks Steamboat if he has Randy Savage’s phone number so he can sit at ringside for their match last week. Cash Wheeler tries to calm things down and puts over the fact that they were involved in Steamboat’s final match.
Dax Harwood says he’s learned so much from Ricky Steamboat. Harwood revealed that at one point, Steamboat was his trainer, and it was a blessing to learn under him. Harwood tries to think about what Steamboat taught him, but can’t come up with anything. Steamboat says he never taught Harwood to be a jackass.
Brodido saves Ricky Steamboat
Harwood says Steamboat did teach him to save his money, and if Steamboat followed his own advice, he wouldn’t have to be there tonight. Dax says he’s a bigger legend than Steamboat ever was. Harwood and Steamboat go nose to nose, and Harwood demands that he get out of his ring.
Steamboat says a few years ago he would have told them to kiss his ass, but now, when he realizes he’s going to be 73, he’s going to be the smarter man today. Steamboat tries to leave, and FTR attacks him. They try to hit Steamboat with a spike piledriver, but Brodido hits the ring and takes out FTR. Steamboat gets a shot in on Harwood as well. The three men celebrate in the ring together.

- Gabe Kidd showed up late in the match to remove Darby Allin from the match after PAC tossed Allin off the top of the entrance ramp through two flaming tables. The finish of the match saw Kyle O’Reilly get a grapevine anklelock on Jon Moxley in a pile of glass, forcing him to tap out.

AEW Dynamite: Blood and Guts Review:
Tonight’s Dynamite felt like a pay-per-view to me. Very little talking and a whole lotta action. Unfortunately, the only talking segment of the evening really sucked. Luckily, the three matches tonight really carried the entire show, and you can dismiss that segment. However, I will say the only reason this show isn’t getting an A+ from me was that segment. But hey, the show was almost perfect, so it’s really hard to complain.
As far as the matches go, the women stole the show for me. I get why AEW wanted the men to main event due to some of the things that happened in the match, but I think the women outperformed the men this evening.
While I very much enjoyed the main event, I don’t think there was anything that happened in it that couldn’t have taken place at the start of the show instead. The women really came to play tonight, and I think they were out to prove a point that they could outdo the men this evening, and I really think they pulled it off.
I also want to give a shoutout to the Falls Count Anywhere match between Hangman and Hobbs that could have easily been a cooldown match between the two Blood and Guts matches, and it was anything but. Page and Hobbs tore it up and set up a very important stipulation for the AEW World Title rematch later this month at Full Gear. Overall, I really enjoyed tonight’s show. Great stuff!
