Dominik Mysterio Explains How He Won WWE’s Backstage Trust

Dominik Mysterio says he gained WWE’s trust after joining The Judgment Day, which helped him grow more confident in the ring.

Dominik Mysterio first worked as a babyface, teaming with his father, Rey Mysterio, starting in 2020. But his career changed completely when he turned on Rey Mysterio at Clash at the Castle 2022, becoming one of WWE’s top heels. Joining The Judgment Day also brought out a new side of him, and his chemistry with the group clicked right away.

Speaking on the Towers of Power Pro Wrestling Podcast, Dominik Mysterio said working with the original members of The Judgement Day pushed him to improve. Their support backstage helped him feel relaxed, and that chemistry carried over to TV.

“I think when I started getting comfortable with The Judgment Day with Damian, Finn and Rhea at the beginning. And then JD coming in, I think just all of those guys helping me just get comfortable.”

“We were getting along backstage, so we were getting along in-ring, we were getting along off camera, so on camera our chemistry was just, it clicked, it was working. That’s what really helped me out and made me realise that I could hang with the big dogs once I started to get comfortable.”

“They’re talking me up as much as they can, and that’s getting into my head, so that’s adding to my character and then the people they started to give me the trust to work with.” He explained that because he grew more confident, WWE started trusting him with big moments.

“CM Punk was coming back, I was Punk’s first match back. Randy coming back from injury, I was Randy’s first match back. So stuff like that that I started noticing that they really started to put the trust in me.”

He also said working NXT, RAW, SmackDown, and live events at the same time helped him improve even faster. “And also too, when I was working NXT, I was doing Raw and I was doing SmackDown, and I was doing all the live events as well. So I think that really helped me and solidified me and gave me the confidence of ‘yeah I’m in this and I’m doing it.” [H/T: Wrestletalk]
