A new report explains why Austin Theory was removed from the original plans of the Men’s WarGames match at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames.
In October, reported plans for WWE Survivor Series: WarGames showed a different lineup. The first version of the Men’s WarGames match was supposed to be CM Punk, Roman Reigns, Jacob Fatu, Jimmy Uso and either LA Knight or Jey Uso vs. Seth Rollins, Bronson Reed, Bron Breakker, Brock Lesnar and Austin Theory.
However, everything changed when Seth Rollins and Jacob Fatu suffered injuries. WWE had to redesign the match, and the final teams became: Breakker, Reed, Brock Lesnar, Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul and Bronson Reed vs. CM Punk, Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes and The Usos.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated that Theory was originally supposed to be in WarGames. He said, “Originally he was supposed to be in WarGames before the Jacob Fatu injury forced them to move up the Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre feud one month. Thus opened both of them up for WarGames, with Rhodes as Fatu’s replacement and the feeling was McIntyre would fit better in the match than Theory.”
He added that Bron Breakker pinning CM Punk was done to set up a future title match. He said, “The Bron Breakker pin on CM Punk was to set up a future title match. Austin Theory was the guy who interfered and the original plan was for him to be part of The Vision.” [H/T: Wrestletalk]
Even though he wasn’t on the official WarGames team, Theory still played a major part. He appeared as the masked attacker who entered the cage and took out CM Punk, helping the heel team win.
It now seems like only a matter of time before WWE officially confirms him as the Vision newest member.
