AEW Collision Results:
This week’s episode of Collision kicks off with Continental Classic action in the Blue League as Orange Cassidy goes one-on-one with Roderick Strong.
Continental Classic Blue League: Orange Cassidy vs. Roderick Strong
- The finish of the match saw Orange Cassidy catch Roderick Strong in a Seatbelt pin to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Orange Cassidy
Grade: B+
Very fun, hard-hitting matchup to kick off the show. I was expecting Cassidy to win this, so nothing too shocking here. But it was definitely an enjoyable way to kick off tonight’s show.
Darby Allin is out of the Continental Classic
It’s announced on commentary that Darby Allin isn’t cleared to continue to compete in this year’s Continental Classic. He will be replaced by Jungle Jack Perry. We get a pre-tape promo from Allin, who says he thought he was winning the battle against the Death Riders, but they are winning the war cause they get to keep competing every week.
Darby Allin says for the first time, he was scared last week in the ring with Kevin Knight when he felt his legs give out, and he was rushed to the hospital. Allin says even though he’s never seen eye to eye with Perry, he wants him to go win the whole thing. Allin admits he doesn’t know what’s next for him.
The rivalry between FTR and the Bang Bang Gang heats up
AEW World Tag Team Champions FTR and Big Stoke come to the ring. Stokely calls out the Bang Bang Gang, and they make their way to the ring. Cash Wheeler says they are the last team to beat FTR, but that will be the last time they ever beat them, claiming they aren’t on their level.
Wheeler says the biggest accolades either of them will ever own is being Billy Gunn’s kid and Mr. Toni Storm. Dax Harwood says the only time they have been relevant in AEW is when they stand across the ring with FTR. Harwood says they have no rivals and no one comes close to them.
Harwood dares Robinson to touch his belt. Austin Gunn runs down FTR and says they keep talking because they are avoiding putting the titles on the line. Juice Robinson says they need those titles, and they didn’t come out to touch them; they want them handed to them after they beat them in the United Kingdom.
The Death Riders target Mark Briscoe
Daniel Garcia, Wheeler Yuta, and Marina Shafir are backstage, all taking shots at Mark Briscoe. Garcia says the stupidest thing Briscoe has ever done is agree to put the title on the line against him next week. Garcia says he’ll win the TNT Title back in Wales next week.
Continental Classic Blue League: Claudio Castagnoli vs. Mascara Dorada
- The finish of the match saw Mascara Dorada hit Claudio Castagnoli with a Shooting Star Press to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Claudio Castagnoli
Grade: A-
WOW! Not only did this match rule, but the winner was totally unexpected. I didn’t expect to see Dorada pick up a clean win over the CMLL World Heavyweight Champion. I would imagine that will lead to him getting a title shot in Arena Mexico in the coming weeks. If not, I can’t see why this happened the way that it did.
Who will be the first-ever AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions?
Tony Schiavone has a sit-down interview backstage between the Babes of Wrath and the Timless Love Bombs. The two teams will face each other this Wednesday to crown the first-ever AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions.
Even though both teams are babyfaces, they each took some sly shots at one another to hype this Wednesday’s matchup. This match could truly go either way. I’m not 100% certain which way this match is going to go, which makes it all the more exciting.
We’re in Swerve Strickland’s house…
Tony Schiavone is in the ring and brings out Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana. Swerve Strickland says two weeks ago, he returned to AEW at Full Gear after being put on the shelf for three months.
Strickland says he has turned himself into the biggest, most dangerous version of himself that you’ve ever seen. Strickland says he’s back to be the AEW World Champion. Swerve says when he was champion, he made business real simple, he said it, he meant it, and he backed it up.
Strickland asks Samoa Joe if he remembers him because every time he tries to get reacquainted with him, he runs from him. Swerve brings up that he ended Samoa Joe’s first AEW World Title reign. Strickland understands he’ll likely have to run through The Opps to get another shot at the AEW World Championship, but he will get his title back.
Strickland turns his attention to Hangman Page and admits there will never be a greater rivalry than what they’ve had in AEW. Swerve says Page is looking for a partner on Dynamite against The Opps, and he’ll be there to team with him. Strickland says after that, however, they need to talk about where they are both going.
An unexpected interruption
Swerve is interrupted by Josh Alexander, who tells him that while he’s been gone, the Don Callis Family has taken over AEW, and that’s not going to change. Alexander reminds Swerve that Kazuchika Okada is the one who put him out and understands why he’s not looking for revenge since the Don Callis Family runs things now.
Josh Alexander says he doesn’t agree with Strickland walking back in here asking for a title shot. Alexander runs down his list of accomplishments and says if anyone deserves a title shot, it’s him. A match is set up between the two men in Cardiff next week on Collision. Katsuyori Shibata hits the ring and attacks Swerve from behind, taking out his knee. Alexander says he’ll see him next week.
Mercedes Moné is in a mood
Lexy Nair is backstage with TBS Champion Mercedes Moné, who doesn’t appreciate the questions about her recent losses. Moné says the only thing weighing on her is her 12 titles. Moné basically says she’s going to make an example of Leila Grey tonight.
TBS Championship: Mercedes Moné (c) vs. Leila Grey (w/ Christopher Daniels)
- The finish of the match saw Mercedes Moné lock Leila Grey in the Statement Maker to win the match via submission.
Winner: And still TBS Champion, Mercedes Moné
After the match, Mercedes refused to let go of the hold, which brought in Christopher Daniels. Mercedes kicked him in the dick for his troubles.
Grade: B
Good match, but nothing special as we got from Mercedes last night. I think this came down to not getting a lot of time on a pretty loaded show. It was cool to see Leila Grey get an opportunity like this, and hopefully it won’t be the last.
Eddie Kingston talks you into the building
We get a video package from Eddie Kingston, hyping up his AEW World Championship match against Samoa Joe this Wednesday at Winter is Coming. Kingston says he’s been doing this for 25 years and has dreamed of being a pro wrestler since he was nine years old, and now he has a chance to be the AEW World Champion.
Kingston says Joe can’t get in his head because he’s in his head every day. Eddie says he cares about the sport, and he cares too much about AEW. Kingston doesn’t like that some of the young guys are taking a path they don’t respect, and it’s not right for the industry. Kingston says AEW was supposed to be different, where you were rewarded for wins and being the best wrestler in the world.
Eddie says he was gone for 18 months, and he comes back to this shit. Kingston says it all starts with Samoa Joe, who was supposed to lead, but now he’s doing what he used to hate. Kingston says he wants things to change and make the culture better, and he will get his opportunity to change things this Wednesday at Winter is Coming. Eddie says he’ll have the opportunity to do things the right way and remind people of the way AEW was supposed to be.
AEW National Championship: Ricochet (c) (w/ GOA) vs. Ace Austin
- The finish of the match saw Ricochet hit Ace Austin with Vertigo to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: And still AEW National Champion, Ricochet
After the match, FTR attacks Ace Austin, which brings out the rest of the Bang Bang Gang. FTR tries to knock Robinson and Gunn out with their titles, but gets taken down instead.
Grade: B+
Very fun match. I also wish this match had some more time, but I enjoyed what we got from these two. Every time these men are in the ring together, they put on a great match.
Continental Classic Blue League: Jon Moxley vs. Konosuke Takeshita
- The finish of the match saw Konosuke Takeshita hit Jon Moxley with Raging Fire to score the pinfall victory.
Winner: Konosuke Takeshita
Grade: A+
After the match, the Death Riders come to ringside as Takeshita stands his ground in the ring as AEW Collision goes off the air.
AEW Collision Review:
Wow! This was a BUSY episode of AEW Collision tonight. It felt like an overstuffed episode of Dynamite. I think had they taken a match off this show and given everything a bit more time, this show could have been perfect.
I think the problem this evening is that they had a lot of things to get in and not enough time to do it, and it caused some matches to get rushed and not get the time they would typically get on Collision. However, this was a very good show with a lot of important things taking place on it, so I think this was a definite step in the right direction for this show. They just need to find the right balance to make things work.
