John Cena may be retiring from in-ring action this weekend, but he isn’t leaving WWE anytime soon.
Cena sat down with Tom Rinaldi for an exclusive interview on WWE’s YouTube channel that aired after WWE RAW. During the conversation, Cena revealed that he has already signed a long-term deal with WWE to continue working with the company as an ambassador after he officially retires.
Cena explained that while his time as an in-ring performer is ending, he still wants to help the WWE grow. “It’s not my time to perform anymore. I have a bunch of strengths and gifts that I can pass on. I’m looking forward to the second mountain of being an ambassador.”
He also mentioned that this new role could allow him to help younger talent more directly. He said, “Maybe ambassadorship comes with letting more people know to watch this, which was my goal in the first place, and maybe mentorship to talent I wouldn’t spend time with where I can sit and be like, ‘Who are you really? How can I get the rapping moment on the bus? I want that guy or girl on TV.’ I’m looking forward to that stuff.” [H/T: Fightful]
This weekend, John Cena will face Gunther in his final match at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The show will also feature exhibition matches between Bayley vs. Sol Ruca and Cody Rhodes vs. Oba Femi.
