It appears WWE might have just shown their hand on who they plan to have Gunther retire next tonight on RAW.
Gunther has retired Goldberg and John Cena in the same calendar year. But as WWE turns the page to 2026, it appears we might have gotten a tease on who they plan to have The Ring General retire next.
Gunther kicked off tonight’s episode of WWE RAW. He mocked the WWE Universe and declared that John Cena tapped out like a bitch at Saturday Night’s Main Event. While the in-ring promo was entertaining, it was what took place after that appeared to set the table for 2026.
Backstage, Gunther was confronted by RAW General Manager Adam Pearce, who kicked him out of the building and sent him home for the night.
However, as Gunther leaves the building, he is confronted by AJ Styles, who is waiting for him by his car. While many expected physicality or heated words, Styles did neither. Although his stare said it all. Gunther laughed it off and told Styles he couldn’t see him as he drove away.
Will Gunther retire AJ Styles in 2026?
Multiple WWE Superstars are reportedly set to call it a career in 2026. AJ Styles has been very vocal this year that he would be retiring from in-ring action sooner rather than later. Recent reports have suggested Brock Lesnar could also be hanging up the boots next year.
There have even been reports that suggest current AEW star Chris Jericho will return to WWE in 2026 for a retirement run. Will Gunther be the one to retire all three men? Perhaps. But it appears The Phenomenal One might be the first on WWE’s list.
