WWE Legend Reveals What He Told John Cena Before His Last Match

WWE legend details his conversation with John Cena before his retirement match.

WWE Hall of Famer Booker T was among the legends present at ringside during John Cena’s retirement match against Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Speaking on the latest episode of his Hall of Fame podcast, he revealed what he said to Cena before he walked out to the ring that night.

“You know, me and John Cena, we’ve got a connection. We’re connected. I had so many matches with John. That was one of the guys that — it was never wrestling. It was always Shakespeare. And him and I, we’ve never talked about wrestling. It’s always been Shakespeare. And that’s what I told him right before the match. I gave him a hug, and I said, ‘Shakespeare baby, let’s get it done one last time.’

Speaking further, Booker T said he enjoyed working with John Cena and recalled having to make him look like a star after WWE started grooming him to be the next top superstar.

“But it was really, really cool. It was really, really cool because there again, I had a great time working with John. Being on the road with John, watching him grow. Knowing that he was the chosen one, and the guy that they were grooming to be the next Rock, Stone Steve Austin per se, Shawn Michaels, you know. I had a job to do. And you know, that job was to go out there and make this young kid a star.” [H/T 411Mania]
