John Cena Shares Wild Drink Recipe For An ‘Okerlund’

John Cena reveals how to make the ‘Okerlund,’ a vodka-cranberry drink. (Hold the cranberry.)

Following his retirement from in-ring competition, 17-time world champion John Cena appeared on Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes’ What Do You Wanna Talk About podcast. Rhodes and Cena started things off with some early morning drinks.

Explaining his drink, ‘The You Can’t Sip Me,’ which is basically “a couple of hits of Wheatley (vodka), a little bit of seltzer water, some lemon juice, and some simple syrup,” served cold.

However, John Cena asked people not to confuse it with the “Okerlund,” which is a drink named after the late WWE Hall of Famer “Mean” Gene Okerlund. He then proceeded to explain how it’s made. Some drinks have multiple ingredients and exact measurements. This one, not so much.

“An Okerlund is literally a vodka-cranberry, where you just whisper the word ‘cranberry’ over about 16 ounces of vodka,” Cena explained.

John Cena says a Florida golf course still makes its own Okerlund

The legendary ‘Mean’ Gene currently still has his own drink at a golf course called Gator Creek down in Sarasota.

“When you go into Gator Creek and order an Okerlund, they give the 16-ounce foam cup. They dip it in ice, so it’s to the brim,” Cena continued. “They pour vodka to the last rung on the cup, they take cranberry juice, they put a dab on their finger, and they put it in there just so it makes the whole thing like a reddish color. Then you go out and play 18 holes.”

Speaking in the same interview, John Cena also explained why he smiled before tapping out to Gunther in his retirement match at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event.
