Gunther Mocks Top WWE Star By Calling Him A Cruiserweight

Gunther is clearly still riding the high of retiring Goldberg and John Cena in the same year. However, his cockiness might come back to bite him.

WWE Superstar Gunther was a recent guest on The Masked Man Show. When asked about his face-off with AJ Styles earlier this week on RAW and if he was next on his “hit list,” Gunther chose to cleverly mock the former WWE Champion by referring to him as a cruiserweight. Showing very little respect for The Phenomenal One and everything he’s accomplished in his legendary career.

“I don’t really have a list, but AJ? Yeah,” Gunther said. “I’ve never wrestled AJ before, and I think it would be a great one. AJ is definitely one of the best cruiserweight wrestlers in TNA history. So, we shall see.” [H/T: Wrestling Inc.]

Will Gunther be the one to retire AJ Styles in 2026?

Multiple WWE Superstars are reportedly set to call it a career in 2026. AJ Styles has been very vocal this year that he would be retiring from in-ring action sooner rather than later. Recent reports have suggested Brock Lesnar could also be hanging up the boots next year.

There have even been reports that suggest current AEW star Chris Jericho will return to WWE in 2026 for a retirement run. Will Gunther be the one to retire all three men? Perhaps. But it appears The Phenomenal One might be the first on WWE’s list.

Stay tuned to WrestleZone for more information as it becomes available.
