Gunther Reveals Unused Speech After Defeating John Cena

Gunther has reflected on the intense fan reaction on WWE RAW following his historic win over John Cena.

At WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, Gunther shocked the wrestling world by forcing John Cena to tap out something Cena had not done in decades. The result marked the end of Cena’s legendary in-ring career.

Last week, Gunther opened WWE RAW with a ruthless promo. He mocked the fans, bragged about keeping his promise to make Cena tap out and claimed he ended Cena’s career that drew heavy boos from the fans.

In an interview on The Masked Man Show, Gunther addressed both the fan reaction following his win. He said, “Yeah, in WWE for sure. It’s true, because I agree with you. I feel like I got booed before and I got those reactions. But I always felt like a little bit of a subconscious respect for the work I do in the ring. And yeah, I feel like that’s gone.”

Rather than seeing that as a negative, Gunther embraced it. “And I think that’s good. I enjoyed it, because I’m not out here to I don’t care what people have to say or judge or whatever. I know what I do and I know what I can do and what I can’t, and I really don’t care about anybody else’s judgment about that. So it’s a good, I feel like we’ve reached a really good point there.”

Gunther compared his WWE RAW promo to Roman Reigns & Brock Lesnar’s promos

Gunther also opened up about his mindset heading into the WWE RAW promo. “And also like Monday before going out — because I compared it to, it was like, ‘Okay, today I’m gonna walk out first. What do I say to them? Like, what do I tell them?’ And I compared it a little bit.”

The Ring General compared it to iconic promos of Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar following beating The Undertaker. “There was like the the first promo with Brock after he beat Taker, or I compared it to a little bit like Roman’s promo where he said, ‘It’s my yard now,’ and all that stuff. And I was like, ‘Oh, what’s the big message?”

He added he had something prepared, “I had something prepared, but I knew the whole time it was like, ‘I don’t have to talk today. They’re done. Like, there’s nothing, I’m just gonna rub it in.’ And as soon as I walked out I was like, ‘I’m just gonna [take] this in now because I’m gonna enjoy it.'” [H/T: 411mania]
