John Cena Shares His Honest Thoughts on Gunther After Retirement

John Cena has opened up about facing Gunther in his final WWE match, sharing honest and respectful words for The Ring General following his retirement.

Gunther earned the right to face John Cena by winning the Last Time Is Now tournament, setting up one of the most talked-about matches of Cena’s career. At WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, Gunther shocked the world by doing the unthinkable forcing Cena to tap out for the first time in decades.

The result sparked massive reactions from fans inside the arena. After the match, several WWE stars came out to pay tribute to Cena’s legendary career. However, when WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H appeared, he was met with loud boos from the crowd, adding more emotion to an already shocking night.

While Gunther later shared his own thoughts on the bout, Cena has now given his perspective after officially retiring from in-ring competition. Speaking on What Do You Wanna Talk About? with Cody Rhodes, Cena praised Gunther’s approach to wrestling and the respect he has for the ring.

He said, “Honored to be in there with somebody who takes the mat as sacred. I don’t care who likes or doesn’t like GUNTHER, respect is a core value, motherfucker hits hard and pure, and he’s all about this 20×20 box.”

Cena made it clear that, even if Gunther doesn’t wrestle the same style he does, that doesn’t matter to him. “Whether he does it my way, a wise man once said ‘just because it’s the way John does it, doesn’t mean it’s the way it needs to be done’, and I’ve got the upmost respect for him.” [H/T: Wrestletalk]
