WWE’s AJ Styles Teases What Could Bring Him Out Of Retirement

AJ Styles reveals one thing that could bring him out of retirement.

Former WWE Champion AJ Styles put his career on the line against Gunther at the 2026 WWE Royal Rumble. Despite putting on a valiant effort, Styles passed out to the Ring General’s sleeper hold and had to retire from WWE.

WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H said AJ Styles is done with in-ring competition after the Royal Rumble. However, The Phenomenal One shared during an interview with NYC-based journalist Adam Glyn that he would consider coming out of retirement if his sons decide to become wrestlers.

AJ Styles first opened up on his decision to retire. Styles noted that while his brain thinks he can still go in the ring, his body says otherwise. He also shared that he had been working through pain for a long time, and he wouldn’t know even if he got hurt.

“My body is screaming at me right now. My brain thinks I can, but my body says, ‘Dude, you’re getting close.’ I’ve told my wife several times that if something were wrong with me, I wouldn’t know. Because you just lived with pain. It’s part of it,” Styles said.

Is AJ Styles planning to pull off a Ric Flair?

When Glyn asked if he was planning to pull off a Ric Flair by wrestling for other promotions after his WWE retirement, AJ Styles noted that he might consider coming back if his sons wanted to become wrestlers.

“Everybody says that, and I’d like to think that it’s my last match, but then again, what happens if my sons get involved in wrestling? To be able to wrestle with them one time would be awesome. But who knows?” AJ Styles said.

AJ Styles has three sons, Ajay Covell Jones (20),  Avery Jones (18), and Albey Jones (16). He also has a daughter, Anney Jones (11).
