CM Punk liked being in Philly on Monday night. Despite that, he couldn’t bring himself to completely embrace the City of Brotherly Love.
This week’s episode of WWE RAW on Netflix took place at Xfinity Mobile Arena in South Philadelphia. As they’ve done in the past with shirts for John Cena and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, WWE marked the occasion with a special edition CM Punk shirt.
CM Punk wore his own arena exclusive shirt that said, “Philly Is The Best City In The World” on the back. However, as some fans noticed during the RAW broadcast, Punk censored the back of the shirt, covering up some letters so it read “Phil Is The Best In The World.”

Monday’s shirt was a near-identical match to CM Punk’s classic white ringer t-shirt, with one main difference. The fist and lightning bolt on the Philly shirt was orange, rather than red like it usually is. The white, black, and orange combination happens to be the colors of the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers franchise.
Punk has praised Philly in the past, and it’s been an important city in his career. However, given that CM Punk is a huge Chicago Blackhawks hockey fan, it’s likely that he censored the shirt so he didn’t show too much love to a rival team. That, or he just wanted to call himself the best in a more subtle manner. Either way, it was still a funny sight during a pretty tense segment.
Punk’s appearance came during Roman Reigns’ return promo on RAW. The two got into a heated verbal battle that saw Reigns challenge Punk for WrestleMania 42.
