AJ Lee wasn’t at this year’s Royal Rumble, but she’s still set to have a big role at WrestleMania 42.
Rhea Ripley is one of the many WWE Superstars who hope a match with AJ is in her future. This year, at least as far as WrestleMania is concerned, that honor will go to Becky Lynch.
According to a report from F4WOnline.com (via the Wrestling Observer Newsletter), AJ Lee versus Becky Lynch for the Intercontinental Championship is scheduled for WrestleMania 42. It was noted that Lee wasn’t in the 2026 Royal Rumble, but it “would have served no purpose for her to be in it.” F4W’s Dave Meltzer noted in last week’s Observer that an AJ Lee vs. Becky Lynch title match was the plan going back to their feud starting in October.
F4W’s report supports what WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select had already reported on January 22. According to WrestleVotes, AJ Lee versus Becky Lynch has been considered one of the more “locked-in” matches for the event.
AJ Lee has competed in two matches since returning to WWE in September 2025. Her most recent match was at Survivor Series: WarGames, where she competed in the women’s WarGames match. WrestleMania 42 would mark her first singles match in WWE in over ten years.
The only match confirmed for WrestleMania 42 so far is CM Punk versus Roman Reigns for the world Heavyweight Championship. WWE has not confirmed which night it will take place on. However, a recent report suggests it’s set to close night two.
