Former WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes has explained why he wants WWE to bring back more live events.
In recent years, WWE has reduced its live event schedule. The company made the change to give talent more rest and avoid burnout or injuries. In the past, WWE Superstars wrestled several times a week, which often led to physical and mental exhaustion.
Now, the schedule is lighter, with more focus on television and media appearances. However, Rhodes believes live events still have value. Speaking on his podcast What Do You Wanna Talk About? with Cody Rhodes, he said today’s grind is different.
Rhodes explained that WWE is operating in a different way now. Instead of taking bumps every night at house shows, talent focus more on meetings, media appearances, and commercial work. Jey Uso agreed and said he misses wrestling on a nightly basis.
Uso added that he misses the routine of knowing each night was centered around being in the ring and performing in different cities. Rhodes then revealed that he has personally suggested bringing back a limited version of house shows.
“I had suggested to some of the top brass in the company, for a myriad of reasons – comradery, the reps, the general sense of working here. I said, ‘Run one weekend a month. Call them house shows.’ Make them almost poke the fourth wall a little bit, in terms of what they are.”
“They’re canon, but they’re not. You’re gonna see some of the stuff you see on TV, but it’s gonna be a bit more of a mixed bag, and maybe you’re gonna see people you’ve never seen before, who are getting their first rep in front of you.” [H/T: WrestlingInc]
For Rhodes, bringing back even a small number of live events each month could help strengthen WWE’s locker room culture and prepare the next wave of Superstars for the spotlight.
