Gunther Reacts To Controversial Loss To Cody Rhodes At WWE Clash in Italy

Gunther is not happy about how his night ended at WWE Clash in Italy.

Cody Rhodes successfully retained the Undisputed WWE Championship against Gunther on Sunday, but the match ended controversially. Rhodes hit a Cody Cutter and Cross Rhodes, but Gunther rolled towards the apron and got his foot under the ropes. Normally, the referee would break the count, but he was out of position and didn’t see it. Rhodes then hooked Gunther’s leg and rolled back as the referee counted to three, securing the win.

Gunther immediately protested, claiming that he had his foot under the ropes, which was supported by the instant replay. The Ring General yelled at the referee and attempted to make his case, but the match result stood, and Gunther left the arena.

WWE cameras caught up backstage with Gunther, who was pretty quiet, yet visibly upset, as he walked away. While he didn’t say anything, he still threw his water bottle at a wall before the video ended.

It’s easy to speculate that The Ring General will have something to say due to the controversial nature of the finish. It also seems likely that a rematch might happen down the line, as many fans have already speculated that this result set up a rematch as soon as WWE King and Queen of the Ring in Saudi Arabia.
