WWE legend John Cena comments on potentially starring in a movie adaptation of the Duke Nukem video game series.
During his recent appearance at the FAN EXPO in New Orleans, John Cena was asked if the fans would get to see him star in a Duke Nukem movie. It was announced in 2018 that Cena would star in the film adaptation of the classic first-person shooter video game for Paramount Pictures & Platinum Dunes. However, there’s no new update on it since producer Brad Fuller told ScreenRant last year that it’s still in development.
A feature film based on the video game has been in development hell, changing studios and directors since the initial announcement in the late 1990s. Speaking about the possibility of starring in a Duke Nukem movie, John Cena subtly referred to the lengthy production standstill by saying he’s not in the movie finance business.
“I know there are some folks out there who know a lot about me. Here’s something you may not know about me: I’m not in the movie finance business,” John Cena said.
However, when asked if he wants to be Duke Nukem, he said he’ll give his best if he gets the right team and script. John Cena also noted that after seeing a glimpse of Cody Rhodes as Guile in the upcoming Street Fighter movie, he believes the former Undisputed WWE Champion would also be perfect for the role.
“If it was with a group of folks that are professionally motivated and the script was passionate, and I knew who was producing it, I would give my best. Although I saw Cody as Guile, and you just shorten the haircut, he could be a pretty good Duke Nukem, too.
