Chris Jericho says he’s never gotten injured in his 35-year pro wrestling career… except for that one incident in 1994.
Former WWE and current AEW star Chris Jericho recently sat down with Spencer Matthews on the UNTAPPED podcast. During the conversation, he shared his thoughts on facing bigger opponents throughout his career. He noted that the body endures the same damage, irrespective of the opponent’s size.
“Well, I mean, just being in the business isn’t easy. Whether it’s big guys or small guys, it’s very hard on your body,” Chris Jericho began. “I think people don’t understand taking a bump, which is the fall in wrestling. I think some doctor said it’s the equivalent of getting hit by a car at 10 miles an hour or something like that. It’s not a hard hit, but still, you’re getting hit.”
Chris Jericho reflects on durability during 35+ year career
However, Chris Jericho considers himself very fortunate for his durability throughout his over three-decade-long career. He revealed that apart from the broken arm he sustained back in 1994, he never endured any major injuries.
“I’ve been very fortunate to be durable. I’ve never been injured in wrestling. I broke my arm once in ’94, which I was out for seven weeks. But other than that, I’ve never been injured ever,” Chris Jericho said.
“I mean, for somebody that’s never done it before, you’d probably feel like you broke your back if you took a bump. I remember the first time I hit the ropes. It was like getting hit in the breadbasket with a baseball bat. You don’t realize how hard those ropes are. But for us, it’s just commonplace. You just get used to it,” Chris Jericho said.
