Was Dragon Lee Being Unmasked on WWE RAW Planned?

There’s an update on Dragon Lee’s unmasking from this week’s WWE RAW.

Following weeks of altercations, Dragon Lee finally got the opportunity to face Gunther one-on-one on this week’s episode of WWE RAW. He looked to avenge his former tag team partner, AJ Styles, but ended up losing his mask, as the Ring General ripped the luchador’s mask off while locking him in a sleeper hold, exposing his face for a split second. Lee had no choice but to tap out.

Wrestling fans were upset over WWE’s decision to reveal Dragon Lee’s face, and responding to one such fan on X/Twitter, Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp revealed that it was a planned angle. The company actually pitched it to Lee, and he agreed.

“They didn’t actively shoot around it. They pitched it. He agreed. They scripted it into a wrestling show. They filmed it, produced it, showed his face while he sold on top of a Slim Jim logo,” he wrote.

Sapp had also posted a picture of Dragon Lee’s face on his X/Twitter, and when fans complained about it, he doubled down, telling them to get over it, as WWE itself aired the unmasking on Netflix and posted the clip across all its social media accounts.

“WWE aired Dragon Lee’s unmasking on Netflix, posted the video to their Youtube ran it on their highlights, and posted it to all their socials unedited. It wasn’t an accident. Get over it,” Sapp replied.

With WrestleMania 42 fast approaching, it will be interesting to see if this angle will lead to a rematch between Gunther and Dragon Lee or if it will lead the Ring General to retire another WWE legend.
