Trick Williams Reveals Which Top Rap Artist Inspired His WWE Entrance Theme

Trick Williams‘ theme song is already one of the most beloved in WWE, and he recently shared the inspiration behind it.

During a recent appearance on the My Mom’s Basement podcast, Williams revealed that the song “Family Ties” by Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem was a big inspiration for his own work.

“The original pitch that I gave the music guy was, I love Family Ties by Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem. I love the horns at the beginning. I like the horns, I like the bass, I like the drums on it,” said Williams (via WrestleTalk). “It feels like royalty, like hip hop royalty is walking in the room. And that’s how I saw myself, representing that hip hop culture, and those horns, it makes it feel like such a big deal. They came back with the theme that I have now, I was like, ‘Bro, this is perfect.’”

Williams went on to note that, since the theme is just an instrumental, he had no real idea what fans would do when the music played. Now, of course, fans chant “whoop that trick,” to which Williams credits the fans with making his theme song even better than imaginable.

“Mind you – the theme is an instrumental. I didn’t know people were gonna be chanting, and since day one, people chanted Whoop That Trick, so that was always like, wow, better than I could have imagined it. But the theme itself, I loved it right away.”
