An up-and-coming star in wrestling from overseas is ready to step into the ring with Drew McIntyre, his fellow countryman.
Speaking to The Sun in a recent interview, Scottish superstar and current NXT Champion Joe Hendry was asked about the influence Scotland has had on WWE in recent years. Besides Hendry’s own rise to fame, McIntyre — a Scot who has also taken WWE by storm — currently resides as the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Hendry said it’s been amazing to see, and a great time to be a Scot.
“Yeah, it’s it’s amazing to see what Scotland’s been able to do in professional wrestling,” said Hendry. “To see what Scotland has done in professional wrestling and for Drew to be holding the WWE undisputed championship, for me to be the NXT champion at the same time is just incredible for a country that is such a small part of the world’s population.”
As far as a potential match in the future, Hendry says the two haven’t really discussed all that. He did say that they’ve talked before, and they do obviously have history together. We’ll have to wait and see on what the future holds, though.
“You know, most of our conversation has actually been just congratulating each other on various things, so we’ve not had an adversarial conversation in a long time,” Hendry said. “But you’re correct, we worked together quite extensively in 2016 and 2017 on the independent scene. And we traded various titles in the UK back then, so look, I think that would be a huge match for me would be to wrestle Drew in WWE, especially for his undisputed WWE championships.
“That’s the amazing thing about Drew getting to the level that he’s at. You always need people to work with, and, look, I’m more than happy to step up. I think that would be a huge match, and hey, I’m NXT champion, Drew was NXT champion, there’s a lot of history there.”
