Joe Hendry would love to appear at WrestleMania again, this time as NXT Champion. Whether he ultimately appears at WWE’s marquee event or not, his focus is still on being the best champion he can be for NXT.
WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard spoke with NXT Champion Joe Hendry at WWE 2K26 Creator Fest at WWE Headquarters. Hendry made a surprise appearance at WrestleMania 41 last year, serving as the opponent of Randy Orton on night one. Prior to that, Hendry campaigned to have a match with John Cena before he retired.
Hendry’s dream of a match with Cena didn’t come to fruition, but he checked a big item off his bucket list with the match against Orton. WrestleMania 42 draws closer, and Hendry was asked if there’s another “shot” he’d like to call in Las Vegas.
Joe Hendry is focused on being the best NXT Champion he can be
“Honestly, my approach is to do the absolute best that I can do with whatever is in front of me. I have just given everything to be at the Performance Center every day and really commit to the system that we have at the Performance Center, and learn as much as I can,” Joe Hendry said. “I’m in there training every day with Terry Taylor and learning every week from Shawn Michaels, being a part of NXT, and now having the opportunity to represent the brand as NXT Champion.”
Hendry says he’s learned he needs to do his best for the job he has. However, he still thinks about how special it would be to see the NXT Championship on the WrestleMania stage.
“My job is to represent NXT and be the best NXT Champion that I can possibly be. Actually, I’m thinking about what’s immediately ahead of me,” Hendry continued. “But if you’re asking me to think about WrestleMania, wouldn’t it be cool to see the NXT Championship at WrestleMania? That’s popped into my head. But for right now, my focus is to be the best NXT Champion that I can possibly be.”
