Cody Rhodes has been given another opportunity to claim the WWE Championship at the March 6 episode of SmackDown. And it looks like a particular WWE Superstar is not happy with that.
It all started earlier at the Elimination Chamber qualifier match between Rhodes, Zayn, and Jacob Fatu. During the match, Drew McIntyre interfered, Claymored both Rhodes and Fatu, and wanted Zayn to win.
However, Zayn didn’t want it that way, and he got rid of McIntyre with a Helluva Kick. But just at the moment, Rhodes took advantage of the distraction and secured the win with a Cross Rhodes.
Since then, Sami Zayn has been having verbal confrontations with Rhodes backstage, complaining about how it was unfair to him and how Rhodes gets opportunities easily.
WWE Star Questions Cody Rhodes’ Latest Opportunity
Cody Rhodes lost at the Elimination Chamber, quite similarly to the way Zayn lost the qualifier. Drew McIntyre interfered during the match, Rhodes got rid of him with a Cross Rhodes, and Randy Orton took advantage of the distraction, and RKO’d him to secure the win.
However, SmackDown GM Nick Aldis got frustrated with McIntyre’s interference and made him pay for it by announcing a title defense match on this week’s SmackDown. So, Rhodes got another shot at the WWE title even after losing in the Elimination Chamber.
That made Sami Zayn quite upset.
During a backstage segment, Zayn went up to Rhodes and told him, “It’s crazy that this match is even happening.” Rhodes asked angrily, “What’s crazy about it?”
Zayn replied that he had let go of the grudge he had with the way the former WWE Champion beat him at the qualifier of Elimination Chamber. He then said that Rhodes actually “lost” at the Chamber.
“The whole point of the Elimination Chamber match is that the winner gets a WWE Championship opportunity and you lost. But you’re still getting this match tonight. So, once again, Cody, everything kind of falls into your lap here. And you know, who’s not getting a second chance? It’s me,” Zayn said.
Rhodes replied angrily that it looks like Zayn is trying to get a title match with Rhodes and he hadn’t even won the title yet. Zayn, in return, responded, asking if Cody Rhodes thinks that he is trying to “snake” his way into the title conversation once again.
However, both wrestlers seemed done with the conversation and frustratingly said they don’t know what’s happening.
Zayn later said that he came only to say “good luck” to Rhodes for his match against McIntyre.
