WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes recently made a surprising comment about his legacy. The remarks came during a recent episode of What Do You Wanna Talk About? With Cody Rhodes, featuring WWE Hall of Famer DDP.
Rhodes reflected on his father Dusty Rhodes’ career. He also explained why he protects his story and why he believes nobody should rewrite his wrestling journey.
During the podcast, he discussed a Gary Hart video. The clip focused on Dusty Rhodes’ wrestling impact. Rhodes said Hart talked about wrestlers going from driving old cars to owning luxury vehicles during Dusty’s time. However, when business declined, many turned against the same person they once praised.
Cody Rhodes doesn’t want anyone rewriting his story
Rhodes noted Hart used the words “no loyalty.” He also connected that story to Paul Heyman. The discussion eventually shifted toward to his own career. He admitted it shaped how he views things. Rhodes said the experience made him document everything. He wants his side of history recorded properly.
“Maybe it is actually a little bit of the negativity, but it’s created in me. It’s why I try to document everything. It’s because I’m not having any motherf***er rewrite my story. And when you hear about s**t, like y’all weren’t there. I was there. If you need me to be the scapegoat for your bulls**t, go ahead.”
“But, like, you won’t do that to me the same way you did it to him. And he didn’t have the luxury. One of the reasons I love this podcast. I tell people I don’t, but one of the reasons I love it, ’cause it’s out there. I can put this out there. You heard it. You know, and oh, it’s a Cody lie and all that. No, buddy. In this information age, the receipts are out there. Does it fit your narrative? No. Is your favorite wrestler not involved, but I was? Probably, but it’s why I am the way I am. And I’ll take it even further.”
