AEW Star Had A Posturing Seizure During WWE Match

An AEW star confirms that he had a “posturing seizure” during his match on WWE NXT back in 2016.

Former AEW World Trios and Tag Team Champion Anthony Bowens competed on the December 12, 2016, episode of WWE NXT. He teamed up with a wrestler named Jonathan Ortagun to take on the Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar). During the match, AOP performed powerbombs on their opponents and dropped Ortagun on Bowens’ head in the process. The current AEW star started seizing in the ring, and the referee had to stop the match early.

That turned out to be Anthony Bowens’ first and last match in WWE. Now, responding to a post on X/Twitter looking back at the incident, the AEW star confirmed that he had a “posturing seizure” that night. It can occur after sustaining any sudden brain injuries, such as Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) or concussions.

He returned to action in January 2017 at a Battle Club Pro event, where he faced Drew McIntyre. He continued to perform in the independent scene and signed with AEW in November 2020, and formed The Acclaimed with Max Caster.

Anthony Bowens thought Max Caster would cost him his job in AEW

During an interview with Good Karma Wrestling a few months ago, Anthony Bowens revealed that he repeatedly feared losing his job in AEW due to Max Caster’s actions. Caster has been involved in several controversies regarding his rap lyrics and was suspended in 2021 for his insensitive remarks about Simone Biles’ mental health.

“People don’t understand what I went through backstage with Max Caster,” Bowens said (H/T to WrestleTalk for the transcription). “I can’t be any more genuine – there were times where I thought I was not going to have a job anymore, and that is terrifying as somebody who has always dreamed of being on television, being on Dynamite, wrestling every week. And then to come to work and potentially have that ripped away for something that you didn’t even do, that’s a petrifying thought. And that’s what I lived with every week tagging with this guy, because – I’m not gonna get into it – there was just occurrence after occurrence after occurrence after occurrence where I was cleaning up this guy’s mess.”
