WWE Planned Seth Rollins vs. Gunther for Weeks Amid Ongoing Bron Breakker Plans — REPORT

WWE’s WrestleMania 42 direction continues to come into focus. Now, new details reveal that Seth Rollins vs. Gunther wasn’t a last-minute pivot but part of a longer-term plan.

However, the full picture behind the decision suggests a few creative curveballs along the way.

According to reports discussed on Wrestling Observer Radio, the groundwork for Rollins vs. Gunther had been in motion for several weeks.

The recent storyline involving Rollins and Paul Heyman — culminating in Gunther choking out Rollins at Madison Square Garden — was designed to steer things in that direction.

In other words, this clash didn’t just happen overnight — it was carefully stitched together, one segment at a time.

WWE WrestleMania 42 plans: Rollins vs. Gunther, Breakker still in the picture

Despite speculation, Dave Meltzer clarified that Bron Breakker’s health status was not the driving force behind the match.

Breakker has reportedly earned medical clearance following hernia surgery. However, WWE opted not to rush his return into a marquee bout.

Instead, the company holds onto the idea of Rollins vs. Breakker for a future program that can be properly built on television. Because in WWE, timing is everything, and patience can be a virtue slam.

The need for a fresh opponent for the Visionary also came after multiple creative changes. Bronson Reed’s injury and adjustments involving Logan Paul shifted plans. This left WWE to explore new options. Gunther, who was previously slated to face Rey Mysterio before Mysterio’s injury, ultimately became the logical choice — a ring general stepping into a headline role.

Elsewhere, a potential IYO SKY vs. Asuka match could come to fruition. A multi-man tag involving Logan Paul, Austin Theory, IShowSpeed, The Usos, and LA Knight is currently listed.

With WrestleMania 42 approaching, WWE’s card appears to be taking shape — even if a few plans are still waiting in the wings.
