WWE Hall of Famer Warns Wrestlers Against Doing Power Slap Fights

Power slap competitions are slowly beginning to grow in popularity, and one WWE legend is against any former wrestlers going and performing.

Speaking on the Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard podcast, legend JBL opened up about the world of Power Slap. He spoke about Heath Slater turning down the chance to be in, and revealed he actually advises any and all WWE stars to avoid it.

“They’re trying to make a name off these WWE guys. I talked to Heath Slater,” said JBL. “They tried to get Heath Slater to do it, and me and Ron were riding with him going, you know, Heath’s a tough dude, Golden Gloves boxer. And we said, Heath, listen, you’ve got to take the guy’s best shot. You can’t fight back.’ I said, ‘this is— they’re setting you up for failure.’ And Heath backed out, thankfully, or didn’t back out, but he didn’t take the offer. And he told us later, he goes, ‘I’m glad I didn’t do it.'”

JBL went on to say that he knows of another former star in Mexico who he also advised not to do it. He noted that he believes Power Slap competitions will bring in a “ringer” to try and knock out WWE stars in order to drum up publicity.

“There’s a guy down in Mexico. I told the same thing. He was going to go do it,” JBL said. “I said I would not do that. And sure enough, he got dropped. Jake might be a different guy. Jake’s a big tough dude and I’d hate to get hit by that guy. Good Lord, man.

“But I’m against the power slap. I just think that what they’re going to try to do is they’re going to try to just take somebody out there who’s got a good chance of knocking him out. They’re going to try to rig it against him. Tons of guys that they’ve gotten from WWE and from wrestling, and they bring them in and they give them some ringer, and, uh, that guy, they could throw a shot and they know pretty much has a good chance of knocking them out. And that’s what happens.”
