Charlotte Flair recently opened up about real life and pro wrestling starting to mix together.
For years, Flair played the “Queen” on screen, strong and confident. But behind that, things were different. She admitted it was not always easy to separate Charlotte Flair from real life.
Charlotte Flair reflects on balancing WWE character and real life
Speaking on Notsam Wrestling, Flair explained how difficult that balance was. She said, “I really did spend most of my career wanting and needing to be hated.” She added, “You’re spending your career wanting to be hated, personal life wanting to be liked, and romantic life wanting to be loved.”
She also spoke about how outside factors affected her.
“It did affect me, when like whatever my dad did would be grouped into what I did.” Being compared to Ric Flair added pressure. It made things harder to separate.
“But also, I am a human. I have feelings, and when like people like go make fun of your looks for like a joke. It’s not like you don’t know what I’m dealing with. It’s my actual body, it’s hard.”
She also reflected on her journey with the Four Horsewomen. She said they were known for wrestling ability first. At the same time, she was dealing with real-life struggles. She mentioned about going through a divorce with former WWE star Andrade while staying in the spotlight.
Flair said writing her Players’ Tribune piece helped her open up. Despite everything, she still takes pride in her work. She said, “I just wanted to be the best bad guy.” And she added, “I think I’m really the best bad guy.”
