Finn Balor has shed new light on his decision to revive the Demon persona ahead of WrestleMania 42. The former Judgment Day member offered insight into the mindset behind one of WWE’s most unpredictable alter egos.
Speaking on ESPN SportsCenter, Balor addressed the return of the Demon for his clash with Dominik Mysterio. However, his explanation left as many questions as answers, keeping the aura around the character very much intact.
Finn Balor opens up about the cost of bringing back The Demon
Rather than framing it as a simple strategy shift, Balor described the Demon as something far more personal. “It’s not something I can really describe in words. It’s a feeling. It’s an emotion. It’s an energy,” he said.
He also admitted that tapping into that side of himself isn’t easy. “It’s something that I can only tap into very occasionally. It can be very draining,” Balor added, suggesting that summoning the Demon comes with a cost — not just for his opponent, but for himself as well.
Still, the warning to Dominik Mysterio was clear and direct. “Trust me, it’s gonna be very painful for Dominik Mysterio.”
The timing of the return is significant. This will be the first appearance of the Demon in three years, following losses to Roman Reigns and Edge in its most recent outings. Once nearly unbeatable, the Demon’s mystique has taken a few hits — and now it walks into WrestleMania with something to prove.
The rivalry itself has been brewing for over a year, dating back to WrestleMania 41 when Dominik pinned Balor to win the Intercontinental Championship. Since then, their fractured alliance in The Judgment Day has turned into a full-blown personal feud.
Balor has already signaled a shift in tone, stating, “What I’m going to show Dominik… is that I come from a generation of doers and the time for talking is over.” In other words, the Demon isn’t here for promos — it’s here for payback.
With WrestleMania 42 approaching, Balor’s gamble is clear. If the Demon rises again, it could restore its dominance. If not, it may be less resurrection and more last rites.
