Chelsea Green Shares Injury Update Ahead of WWE WrestleMania 42

Chelsea Green is making progress in her recovery from a leg injury that’s kept her out of the ring for a few months.

Green suffered a chipped and cracked inner ankle bone during an Elimination Chamber qualifying match on the February 6 episode of SmackDown. Despite that, she’s remained on WWE TV in a non-contact role and continues to do media rounds. Green, who wore heels instead of her walking boot, gave an update on her status at WrestleMania 42 media day.

Green told WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard that she believes she’s close to the end of her in-ring hiatus, noting that being able to wear heels is a good sign.

“This is definitely fashion first. However, this is the first time I’ve even been able to put heels on, walk, and be okay. So, we’re healing,” Green told WrestleZone. “We’re healing, and I feel like we’re coming to the end.”

Green says one difficult thing to maneuver is keeping continuity on and off WWE TV. Green said some called the legitimacy of her injury into question, but she shared how lucky she was that it wasn’t any worse.

“I think the thing is, when I’m continuing on TV and playing a character — and my character has, you know, broken her leg — I don’t want to mix what’s real with my character. That gets confusing. People have been kind of trolling me like, ‘Oh, she kicked a field goal, this and that.’

“No, I broke my ankle. I also sprained it. I tore tendons and ligaments and everything. However, I’m weight-bearing, so I got very lucky. I got very lucky that I broke it on the side of my ankle and not across the top. So, thank gosh. We’re just going to continue to play.”
