WWE SmackDown Card:

  • Jacob Fatu’s response to Drew McIntyre
  • WWE Women’s United States Championship Number One Contender’s Match | Jordynne Grace vs. Tiffany Stratton
  • Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal
  • Street Fight | The Wyatt Sicks vs. The MFTs

WWE SmackDown Results:

Backstage, Randy Orton and Pat McAfee arrive and are greeted by the SmackDown GM. Orton pushes past to stomp to the ring.

Randy Orton…

Orton says he doesn’t need Pat McAfee, and he doesn’t need Cody Rhodes‘ permission to listen to his voices. Orton lists all the ways Rhodes circumvented their friendship. Rhodes chose to depend on the likes of Seth Rollins instead him. At WrestleMania, Rhodes will fall victim to the three most dangerous letters in WWE, R-K-O!

Grade: C+

This is the same promo Orton has been cutting for weeks. The inclusion of McAfee has sucked the lifeblood out of this angle. At this point, this writer just wants it to be over.

Street Fight | The Wyatt Sicks vs. The MFTs

As soon as the bell rings, everyone brawls. The fight spills out of the ring. Talla Tonga tosses a steel ring steps at Rowan, almost decapitating the OG member of the Wyatt Family. After the break, the MFTs are firmly in control. Rowan lands a dive that takes out Talla. Gacy lands a dive. Roawan and Lumis take turns hitting Sikoa with a garbage can.

Nikki Cross gets involved and takes out Tonga Loa with a splash off the top! Tama saves Sikoa from Uncle Howdy’s Sister Abigail and drops Howdy with a neck breaker. Tama sets up his finish, the Cut Throat. Sikoa swoops in and lays Uncle Howdy out with the Samoan Spike! An annoyed Tama looks on in disbelief as Sikoa steals the pin.

Winners: The MFTs

Grade: C

Is… is this finally over? Please, for the love of all that is good in the world, is this feud finally over? The match was fine. Each team conveyed that this is a blood feud well, but at this point, no one cares. It’s gone on too long and hasn’t been fun.

WWE Tag Team Championship Match: Damian Priest and R-Truth vs. Grayson Waller and Kofi Kingston

Priest and Truth get the win after a flapjack/complete shot combo on Waller.

Winners and STILL WWE Tag Team Champions, Damian Priest and R-Truth!

Grade: C+

This was a fine TV match. With all the actual tag teams on SmackDown, it’s flat out bizarre that this was the tag title match they decided to have during WrestleMania week. The tag titles have never meant less, and that’s a shame.

Jaded…

WWE Women’s Champion Jade Cargill makes her way to the ring with B-Fab and Michin. Before Cargill can speak, the number one contender, Rhea Ripley, interrupts. Ripley says she wants nothing more than to lay Cargill out right now, but she isn’t going to give Cargill any excuses she can use not to defend her title at WrestleMania. Everyone argues. Ripley says Cargill is hiding behind her minions. Cargill tells B-Fab and Michin to leave the ring. Ripley and Cargill go back and forth. Ripley calls Cargill a narcissistic fake @$$ B*tch. Cargill walks away.

Grade: D

Everything about this was bad. The match at Mania will be good, but these promos have been yawn-inducing.

WWE Women’s United States Championship Number One Contender’s Match | Jordynne Grace vs. Tiffany Stratton

Women’s United States Champion Giulia and Kiana James are at ringside to watch this match. Grace and Stratton trade strikes and quick pin attempts. Grace lands a few short arm clotheslines, followed by an electric chair on the top rope. After the break, Stratton lands a handspring stunner, followed by a rolling senton. Stratton crushes Grace with a moonsault for the win.

Winner- Tiffany Stratton

Grade: B-

Solid match that the crowd didn’t seem to care about. They have been all over the place with trying to position Stratton in the United States title picture. Why isn’t the title match on Mania? None of this makes sense.

Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss vs. Bayley and Lyra Valkyria

Everyone brawls as the bell rings. Before this one can get going, the Women’s Tag Team Champions, Nia Jax and Lash Legend, hit the ring and lay everyone out. Jax and Legend destroy Valkyria with the Vegamatic.

No Contest

Grade: B

This was a good way to get the champs over as monsters. They need to destroy everyone at all times. Also, they need to retain at WrestleMania.

Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

Joe Hendry is a surprise entrant for the match. The final four are Royce Keys, Otis, Aleister Black, and Talla Tonga. Keys clothesline Black over the top. Talla tosses Otis over the top. Keys counters a chokeslam from Talla and obliterates him with a spinebuster. Talla stumbles to his feet, and Keys sends him over the top with a mighty lariat for the win.

Winner- Royce Keys

Grade: B

This gets a full grade bump just because they were smart enough to have Keys win.

Cody, Cody Rhodes!

Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes asks the crowd what they want to talk about. They aren’t going to talk about the last three WrestleManias and the conspiracy theories surrounding his WrestleMania matches, getting bogged down by celebrity stuff. WrestleMania is about his feud with his mentor, Randy Orton. Rhodes puts over Orton, but notes that 2009 Orton killed everyone, but went to WrestleMania that year and lost. CM Punk’s music hits, and the World Heavyweight Champion joins Rhodes in the ring.

Rhodes asks Punk if they shake hands right now, is he going to kick him in the balls and turn on him too? Punk laughs. Punk notes that he came out to give a bit of advice and to make sure Rhodes doesn’t mention someone (McAfee) who doesn’t deserve to be named. Rhodes and Punk share some witty banter. Punk tells Rhodes he is proud of him. As Punk tries to leave, Rhodes calls him back and gives Punk his flowers and tells him that he loves him. Punk and Rhodes hug.

Grade: D

The last thing we see before WrestleMania is the two world champions hugging in the ring. What in the bluest of blue hells were they thinking, ending the show like this? First, the love fest between Roman Reigns and Punk, now this. This is all just baffling.

SmackDown Review:

I would call this the worst final show before a SmackDown WrestleMania… but then again, this writer is old enough to remember when the last show before Mania ended with Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar having a tug-of-war over the championship. You know what? This was worse. Way worse. As much as this writer likes Punk and Rhodes, this was the biggest waste of time on a show full of things designed to waste time.

There are several people who didn’t make the WrestleMania card. Why not give the fans quality matches that utilize those talents, instead of the big ball of nothing they gave us tonight? Let’s just pray WrestleMania washes the taste of this godawful go-home show out of our mouths. Let us know what you think in the comments!
